Asinine letter in my local paper today
what's the simplest and best way to respond to swill like this?

-------------------------------------------

Stop criticizing and support our troops

I am currently serving overseas in the U.S. Navy. I am disappointed that there are so many people back home who seem to have forgotten the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

I am proud to be serving in the Navy and chose to be here. It is demoralizing to find out that I don’t have the support of my own country. Instead of spending money on banners and poster boards criticizing my actions as a sailor, you should be sending care packages and letters of support.

I am also saddened to see the negative media attacks that President Bush is enduring.

As an American, I was raised to support my president no matter what. You don’t have to agree with him, but to slander your own president in my opinion is treason.

SA (SW) Raven Thompson
U.S. Navy
South Point, Ohio

it during the Clinton Witchhunts.
This letter sounds like bullshit to me.

3. Why Suddenly Do RWs Object To Criticism of President?
These are the same people who slammed and continue to slam President Bill Clinton.

Again, he takes criticism of Bush as criticism of all men and women in military. Obviously not reading too carefully.

4. "As an American, I was raised to support my president no matter what."
No. That has nothing to do with being raised as an American. Blind allegiance is far from American. Truth and justice are the American way.

6. Maybe if he was in Iraq rather than Ohio
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 05:36 PM by Cheswick
He might know what he is talking about.
In addition, don't they have stores in Ohio? Why does he want us to send him care packages?

7. I should be sending care packages?
What, 25% of my income isn't enough?

Smells like a plant to me.

8. Speaking of Treason...
I heard that there was this thing coming up, called an "election", whereby someone not only is allowed to criticise the president, but even gets to challenge him for his job!. What kind of anti-American nonsense is this! And the liberal media is complicit, even occasionally running 5 second clips of this guy and his slanderous assertion that "he could do a better job".. Like anyone could do a better job than the president!. I mean, if someone could do a better job, they would be president, right? Because God would have put them there instead! And I hear that public tax dollars even go towards this un-american attack on our leaders! Our leaders don't need to be defending their jobs while they are simultaneously busy ensuring domestic tranquility via multibillion dollar no-bid contracts, and protecting us from terror by forcing nude Iraqi paperboys to sodomize themselves with bananas! Allowing someone to run tv commercials advocating that The President be replaced, why, I've never heard of such unpatriotic garbage! I call on all good, decent, patriotic americans to stand up and put an end to these treasonous "elections", once and for all!

11. I laughed
until I realized how sadly that this is all so true. Just ask them would they feel the same way if Clinton were in charge.

9. most moranic.... line... ever....
"... I was raised to support my president no matter what. You don’t have to agree with him...."

How exactly does one absolutely support someone and yet disagree with him? (That is, other than by being a fool).

And we all know how tuned in your average Steelworker Seaman Apprentice is to the intricacies of United States Foreign Policy....

10. Thinking people forget about 9/11 is a red flag for me
I mean, how can anyone forget when everyone on Team Bush uses it as their justification for everything they do?

Someone should show this guy (?) how Rush supports the troops with his "yo chose to be there so be a man and go die for Bush" tripe.

13. Let an expert speak.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Patriotism means to stand by the country, it does not mean to stand by the President or any other public official. " ----- Theodore Roosevelt
