Should the Carlyle Group be seized and disbanded.
It could not be more crystal clear that this group of individuals operate for the sole purpose of creating war and profiting from it. One stop shopping. With the huge defecits we face, is it not time to consider outlawing their activities, JUST AS PRESCOTT'S COMPANY WAS FINALLY SHUT DOWN BY CONGRESSIONAL EDICT. It runs in the family. Its their profession. Its what they do.

You want peace in the world? Take the profiatability out of war.

1. Broken up ...

Yes, they should break up the group so that their is not such a high concentration of wealth and influence.

7. I'd prefer seized and sold
and distributed among the victims. I don't want any of that blood money even in as indirect a manner as retirement of the bush* memorial national debt.

5. The simplest way to control it...
... is with simple legislation. First, bring back war profiteering taxes as existed during and shortly after WWII.

Second, Carlyle is a privately-held company. There should be legislation making it a requirement for receiving government contracts that the company open its books. That would go a long way to providing a little sunlight in the matter of companies such as Carlyle (and Bechtel--most people don't realize that the parent company is privately-held, as well).

6. This makes more sense than some of the other suggestions
I have to say, breaking up a country just because you don't like seems like a reckless abuse of power. Do you want the Republicans, the next time they get in power (assuming we can get them out of power in the november election) to have the option of shutting down corporations they don't like?

Better to operate through subtler methods in my mind.

11. Yes, that "privately-held" part is a real obstacle from
doing anything with/about them. They are HUGE, they are secretive, they are controlling more and more of the world's capital.

Good suggestions.

10. Carlyle is just one of a number of monopolies that need to
be smashed. The others are the media monopolies, the megacorporations that used to be cig companies, and the gigantic banking companies.

We need to enforce all our antitrust laws. We need to pull corporate charters of corporations that dodge taxes and offshore jobs, hurting this country in the process.

Death to corporate traitors! Pull their charters! Smash them to pieces!

15. Check out the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
they are are members, have you ever taken the time to read their propoganda? They are also spending millions for ads supporting conservatives all over the country. You know, those public opinion ads and not campaign ads.

14. Let's get real
First things first. Kerry has to win in Nov. before anyone can turn any attention to the Carlyle Group. If BushCo wins, this matter isn't even on the table.

Secondly, even if Kerry wins, it's up to the congress to act on them and there's no guarantee we'll win back the congress.

I'm not a lawyer, but if Kerry wins, hopefully his attorney general can bring charges against them for war profiteering (as well as Haliburton, Bechtel and others).
