Ron Reagan re. his mother's views, from Apr., 2003, Salon interview
"Reagan's parents were notoriously remote from their four children. Ron Jr. reportedly had the closest relations with his parents and he remains close with his mother, Nancy Reagan, who as the keeper of the Reagan flame is often called upon to dedicate public sites bearing her husband's name. Reagan says his mother shares his 'distrust of some of these (Bush) people. She gets that they're trouble in all kinds of ways. She doesn't like their religious fervor, their aggression.'

Reagan says his family feels particularly alienated from the Republican Party over its opposition to embryonic stem cell research, which could have significant benefit for Alzheimer patients like his father. 'Now ignorance is one thing, ignorance can be cured. But many of the Republican leaders opposing this research know better, people like (Senate Majority Leader) Bill Frist, who's a doctor, for God's sake. People like him are blocking it to pander to the 20 percent of their base who are mouth-breathers. And that's unconscionable -- there are lives at stake here. Stem cell research can revolutionize medicine, more than anything since antibiotics.'"

1. Ron Reagan, Jr is so refreshing to read
He sounded a lot like his father when he spoke yesterday. He has a lot of his father's oratory gifts.

2. Just saw his eulogy again on CSpan -- he does have...
some of his Dad's spirit at the podium. The guy speaks his mind -- quite well.

3. My Mom pointed out last night
that Ron Reagan even has some of his father's mannerisms. But you know--in hindsight, Ron & Nancy must have raised their kids right-both Patti & Ron are liberals!

6. I missed that--have been away from TV, thank God.
Is he really as good at oratory as people say he is?

Even some freepers were remarking about what a good speaker he was yesterday--and most of them can't stand him because he speaks the truth about the Chimpster.

4. As I pointed out on another thread...

Nancy's beef is with the extended Shrub family, not necessarily the Republican Party. Other than the stem cell disagreement, I think she's solidly in their corner.

That said, she might join her children on our side if KKKarl et al. try to exploit her at the already chock-full-of-exploitation-filled Republican Convention. I hope to God she doesn't allow them to use her like that.

Dear Nancy, now's the time to JUST SAY NO.

(edit: a whole lot of pointing going on) B-)

8. Please, please, please provide a link!
When did she say this? It does not surprise me at all, by the way, but I'd love to see the quote!

11. Nancy Reagan Has No Use for the Bushes

20-Feb-01
Ronald Reagan
According to Cindy Adams of the New York Post, former First Lady Nancy Reagan, did not vote for George Jr. Worse, she refers to him, among other things, as "the village idiot". It seems she wasn't too keen on George, Sr., either.

10. She came out in support for the Brady Bill
as did Ronnie. One of the last times he shared his views on public policy before the fatefull diagnosis. The Newt led neocons weren't happy but what could they do. Their master speaks.

7. Does Ron Reagan read DU?
People like him are blocking it to pander to the 20 percent of their base who are mouth-breathers.

LOL! It's just that I haven't seen the expression "mouth-breathers" outside of our liberal Dem/Green conversations.
