Seems to be a lot of fuss over that. I'm afraid I can't watch TV, read a newspaper, or listen to the radio for at least a week.
When I wake up from news hibernation, I'm sure i will see hundreds of streets renamed after him, and parks, bus stations, Parkway rest stops, schools... Maybe even try to chisel Teddy Roosewvelt's face into Reagan's.
Anyway, my first thought was simply that it's about time. Then, I realized I didn't really care one way or another. The only thing good I could say about his presidency is that it wasn't nearly as bad as this one we're suffering under, but I can't see any reason to be dancing on his grave. History will judge him, not me.
I had left an interesting anti-death penalty presentation, and went to a Quaker meeting house where Kucinich was speaking on a last-minute whirlwind tour before our primary this Tuesday. I got a phone call and somewhere in the conversation it was mentioned Reagan died.
After hearing of the years on death row and multiple trials of someone who was eventually proven innocent, and Kucinich's misty vision of an American future, the news of Reagan's death just didn't seem at all important.
Reagan's time is long over, and rather than dwell on old battles, there is far too much work for the future out there.
