Who thinks that the surest way to kill a conservative idea...
is to implement it?

Just look at the Iraq war. Now we no longer have to worry about the neoconservative agenda. Its been effectively killed. How was it killed? It was implemented and failed.

1. Well, I think you might be correct...
and it is an awful price to pay for being right. Imagine if Social Security becomes privatized and ditto for Medicare. We can all sit back and watch America crumble yet we can feel good knowing we were right.

:)

4. We corrected Prohibition pretty fast.
John Kenneth Galbraith once said: "The enemy of the conventional wisdom is the march of events."

Abraham Lincoln said and I paraphrase: The way to end an unjust law is to strictly enforce it.

8. Yes but...
The "Drug War" has gone on much longer than Prohibition and there is no end in sight. Now we have the "War on Terror" and again, no end in sight.

I'm not disagreeing with you because I believe you to be correct. I'm just saying it is a very dangerous thing to do, a lot of people can get hurt.

7. That seems to be t he case with a lot of their ideas
Defend freedom? Lotta people die.
Spread democracy? Lotta people die.
Make drugs more affordable? People die.
Improve health care by eliminating frivolous lawsuits? People die.
Ban abortions? Women die.

I wonder how people would die from their idea to protect the sanctity of marriage.

3. This was very quick, though
I've noticed that both parties have certainly been victims of their own success from time to time. This, however, was record speed.

5. doesn't matter
If a conservative idea doesn't work in the real world, the conservatives will just say that liberals sabotaged it. Also, all of their ideas are so logically fallacious and idiotic that there's no need to implement them in the real world to prove they are so; we don't need to privatize Social Security to know it's a bad idea. Anyone with any sense knew that the war in Iraq would be trouble (even with the assumption that the Bushies had a post-war plan).

There's really no way to kill a conservative idea than to implement liberal ideas and educate the conservatism out of them. :smoke:

6. After reading David Brock's new book. "The Republican Noise Machine",
I don't think education is possible. We need a hard, cold dose of reality.

9. Yep. My philosophy was "let it all go to shit!"
After 2002, I was basically in a frame of mind that figured it has to get worse before it gets better.

Keep electing these bozos, and watch the results.
