Hate Speech is Hate Crime; and mental illness to be treated.
IMMEDIATELY.

Now is the time for hate speech and hate crime to be considered what it truly is: MENTAL ILLNESS to be contained and treated.

The irrational hate or fear of spiders, dogs, cats, etcetera is considered phobic behavior: what is different about the irrational hate of ethnic groups, other religions, other races, or people from other areas of the world?

Answer: NOTHING.

I do not want these people DESTROYED, I want them TREATED, and if we cannot treat them, I want them isolated and contained so they may not spread their illness.

THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE THEIR BEHAVIOR OR ABSOLVE THEM FROM RELATED WAR CRIME ISSUES: in my way of thinking, it re-inforces the urgency in haveing them treated, cured, or contained. Active and practicing pedophiles or other sociopaths are treated this way. Where is the difference; in fact, these persons are much more dangerous in that their illness affects MASSES versus individuals.

Rush Limbaugh doesn't need OXYCONTIN, he needs HALDOL or THORAZINE.

3. NO.
I'm sorry to spout the Neo-Socialist Commie Party Line, but what Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity and their ilk do is incindiary rabble rousing.

It is time that these RW Hate Speech liars be exposed for what they are. The time is past when screaming "FIRE" in a crowded theater is protected speech.

8. INCINDIARY rabble rousing.
Unacceptable:

"Let's lynch us some N*****s!!!" Sick and wrong. Treatable or isolatable.

Acceptable:

"I have a dream."

I said, if you want to yell FIRE in a crowded theater, it's time you took the complete and total responsibility for your hateful actions.

15. Still not with you.
Harmful actions already are against the law. If you want to advocate punishing hate then you better be prepared for the involuntary medication of a few hundred thousand Bush haters. The America I know doesn't punish people for what they think.

19. Works for me.
Best line out of the bible, except the bits on Charity and the Sermon on the Mount:

"He who hateth his brother is a MURDERER; and ye know no murderer hath a place in the Kingdom of God."

People HATE because they are sick. Aren't we suppose to HELP sick people? The only thing Rush has different from the guy standing on the corner condemning imaginary aliens is money and a much larger audience.

They both have a pathology, not an "opinion." They both need treatment.

7. Too Late.
Sorry if I have permanently crossed the line into the FAR left views of my Socialist roots, but these people are entrenced in the body politic. They should be discredited, and barring that, treated and prosecuted.

There is actually legal precident for this: Take the schizophrenic who shot up the Capitol and killed a cop in the process. The legal system is about to TREAT this guy against his will. If you take the view that the violence and hatred espoused by these RW pundits of evil is causing violence and injury, then they are violating the law.

If they don't want treatment, fine. I say open up one of the unused prisons we have sitting around here in Michigan, and let them spew their bile and hatred at each other.

The nastiest part of Nationalism is always the demonization of the other country, people or group. This has been going on since the Kingdoms of Ur, and it's high time we outgrew it, or moved over like the evolutionary dead ends we are in danger of becoming.

Give the rats a chance: they act more socially than we do anyway. They might make it work.

13. true freedom of speech I love it we must have it
But Howard Stern or any other radio jock can't say fuck but Savage can call for the killing a Arabs (towel heads)<--his words not mine so we aren't free to say fuck but we can call for the killing of Arabs? It doesn't make sense does it? I can understand the frustration that Tyler has for example look at what happened is happening in Kosovo(hate speech). How far are we going to let it continue before we start seriously discussing this not saying you aren't but I do think it's something we have to talk about in this country it's gone to far on the right and it's time we do something. I think that's why Al Frankin started Air America Radio. We aren't going to walk in lock step on how to handle it but it's good that people are realizing we have a problem.
I think the fairness doctrine should be brought back that's a start.

when someone committs an unlawful act (like shooting up the Capitol). You're advocating a dangerous route to suggest that people be punished for their thoughts or opinions.

11. By your standard entire societies are mentally ill
For example the caste system in India (I know now outlawed caste differences still exist).

They had a strongly enforced caste system for hundreds of thousands of years where people were classified and some people were ineligible for certain jobs or barred from living anywhere. It was/is a profoundly racist society. Were the billions of people who always lived in India all mentally ill? No. They were racists. They had bad ideas.

Having bad ideas does not per se make you mentally ill. Instead, the mentally ill people who also have bad ideas are a sub-set of all people with bad ideas.

Some counter-brainwashing is in order.

18. culture change
If people tolerate hate speech in their own hearts or personal lives,
They tolerate it on the radio and TV. We as a culture are being conditioned to dull our social sensitivity to others.

Flood right wing pundit's "shows" with calls denouncing the host as a bully, and that he is morally bankrupt. Stop being BYSTANDERS wringing your hands. These dominator's want a challenge they are pushing the limits of tolerance to see if their sociopath nature will be tolerated. They are like kids acting out by pushing limits on what is good or bad. So good hearted people (liberals ) need to DEFINE what is moral for these bullies, apparently their mother never taught them.

When you hear one of these morally depraved wing nuts spouting off~anywhere~ RISK opening your mouth. Get into the fray and denounce their ideas as morally wrong.
And do not listen to their retorts,Stick to your point and repeat it.
Talk LOUDER and say the statements like killing"towel heads" is evil, wrong hateful and morally indecent.

These wing nuts want to dominate and they have hijacked morality and the microphone to sell their very immoral worldview.
Go straight to their core.
Talk about inequality, bigotry and bullying.Call it what it is in very SIMPLE terms.

How many people get off their duff to call up these pundits?
You can just talk, over them as if they don't exist, take control of the mike and just talk and ignore the host.Do to the arrogant host as they do to others.Be assertive but don't be a bully. This assertive simplicity with teeth is what gets their listeners attention..Talk to the audience,Say in very chastising terms how the pundit is immoral and morally depraved.Say how the pundit 's psychological penchant for spewing middle school style vitriol and bullying other people is the root of the immorality problem with the country.

Point out some people don't have a pathological need to control others or force their own way of life upon them ,this is called emotional maturity.
Remind the audience this arrogant vitriol seen as 'normal'or good is what helps create a culture that tolerates abuse, domination and subjugation of all people. Right wingers endorse inequality, abuse, and immorality . They shamelessly use religion to excuse blatantly abusive speech and lawmaking. Right wing demagogues hate freedom, justice or the America I respect. So for the sake of integrity I have to stand up and say____ you are nothing but a common bully. Hate statements made by bullies are about fostering a culture that endorses bullying as it's 'morality' and rallying people who are bullies themselves to I know what you are doing to this society with the way you are speaking to reach the baser emotions of people.A person with no genuine morality, only the appearance of morality is the kind of audience you target.
And I condemn bullies for the evil they do,and I know deep down you know exactly what you are doing when you say the bad things you say about other people and pretend you are right about them.

You _fill name in of pundit here_ have a very controlling, narcissistic, simplistic, sadistic heart and a serious personality disorder. You are the psychological problem with this culture. You encourage bullies and sanction them. I don't that is why you seek to scapegoat me.The sick person is the last person to admit they have a problem. And you____ are a problem.
Than hang up and have another person call.

Play like you are a right winger if you have to fake it just to get on the air.Flood Rush,Scarborough,Hannity, all of them with your calls denouncing the pundit as a bully and calling them immoral.Don't get sidetracked, call a bully a bully and do not be swayed by their talk, instead address the audience not the host.. Write letters, call their TV stations,Call every call in place,go to their"studios" stand and wave signs.Do anything but Do not just Stand By when someone around you spews hate.

Eternal vigilance is the price of Freedom...

23. Agreed. This post is why I support zero party rule
The poster probably has no idea that what he/she is saying is self-parody and an off-the-charts and emetic prelude to mass murder, and call for the destruction of post-Enlightenment civilization in toto.

Perhaps the poster ought to be placed in a re-education camp for 'treatment' of their own political views. After all, who among us is so ideologically pure we wouldn't benefit from a stay at Kamp Tolerance?

Seriously, since I'm trying to be a nicer person... I know *other people* are a drag, but I'm not sure your approach is the best, particularly since there's no consensus even here as to which other people need to be worked over, lobotomized, drugged, gassed or whatever the program consists of.

31. I agree.
In many cases, not all but many, hate speech is the equivalent of screaming "fire" in a crowded theater.

And I'll stick with leaving it up for the court to decide. Years ago in Portland, Or. a black man was beaten to death by white supremacists. The ring leader was convicted of inciting the murder even though he was not directly involved. This I haven't a problem with, and do not consider it a violation of the first amendment.
