they just called my brother up for iraq
my baby-brother; 30 years old. he ships out june 12 or 13.
like most, he joined after failing to land good employment and
having kids to support some years back. now, missing part of a finger
from a weapon mis-fire and some troubles from a parachute jump gone
wrong-- they're taking this new dad, full-time prison guard, to make
money for Halliburton.

currently encouraging my sophmore son to fall behind in credits--
to get as many high school years as possible.

peace

2. My brother just got called for
duty in Cuba...where you know what is located. His wife is at sea now and they have a special needs child at home and he is only a few months from retirement. He's trying to appeal his deployment since we also have a brother who is terminally ill right now.

Told me that he doesn't know anyone who supports this war in his unit and detests this current government. He wants out.

4. You remind me of my mother...In 1970 when I was 16 and Viet Nam
was front page news, she strongly suggested that she'd support me if I wanted to get married and have a baby very quickly.

As I had never yet seriously dated, I turned down her offer (must admit she stunned me that time) and its a good thing I did as things turned out. Thats just how far she was willing to go to keep her oldest boy out of that miserable war.

5. I am very very sorry to hear that.
Your message reminds us all that those serving in Iraq are real people, not just toy soldiers.

I am so sorry.

9. you'll find a LOT of support here
sadly, more and more every day it seems as the evil empire continues to pluck the best and brightest and most vulnerable to die for their imperialism

check out: www.mfso.org (Military Families Speak Out) for additional suppport.

10. Sorry to hear the news and wish him the bes of luck....just goes
to prove that all the military are not bad Americans or cruel individuals as has been suggested in a number of posts lately. It's so easy to condemn an entire group for the actions of a few.

 so sad for you and your family.

13. Sad to hear. Best of luck to you all.
I guess 'full-time prison guard' removes any mystery about why he's considered indispensable. Maybe a few more than six or seven bad eggs are being removed from their positions.

I just read that 10% of our troops in South Korea are headed to 'the sandbox'

15. Hide him
I'm serious! Short of that tell him to remember who he is and what he believes. Tell him to remmeber where he comes from and that all people are equally children of the universe. I pray he is safe.
