Everyone in and outside of US knew that we had recurring problems with elections and the actions of the US military in wartime.
BUT we could still claim we tried, that we had pricinciples even if we didn't always do a good job of following them.
But after FL2000 and the 12-12-00 SCOTUS decision, the US can no longer make any credible complaint about elections in other countries.
And after the pictures - but more importantly the directives and the Gonzales memo discussed in Hersch's 2nd New Yorker article - the US can no longer claim any moral high ground for the actions of the US military.
In less than 4 years, Bushco has destroyed a great deal of the world's image of the US. Equally importantly - maybe more importantly - Bushco has destroyed the US' image of itself.
And for those of us who think and observe, we realize that we as adults and citizens bear at least some responsibility for what has been and is being done in our name.
