Why do almost all gay women have short hair? I'm interested . . .

I am all for gay marriage and equal rights believe me!!!!! I am so happy Massachusetts has started everything. But, my sister is gay and has short hair, her partner has short hair, my sister-in-law is gay and has short hair, her partner has short hair, my best friend's sister is gay and has short hair, her partner has short hair and every picture I see of gay women have short hair. Gay men don't have long hair . . . what gives? Is it genetics? Probably . . .

that it's not genetics. My guess would be that they cut their hair. That's why they have short hair.

4. I don't want to sound bigoted...

...because I am ANYTHING but that. But I have often wanted to ask why in gay or lesbian couples one partner usually tries to look/move like a member of the opposite sex. I mean, if two women are partners, why does one decide to look butch? If two men are partners, why does one try to look effeminate? Please enlighten me. I know this might be really dumb.

I know and have know gay women who have long hair. I have short hair, always have and I'm not gay. I know women who have to work all their lives and don't have time for fussing with long hair who keep their hair short. I think you don't know enough gay women to paint them with such a broad brush.

9. Tactical reasons

Long hair is easily grabbed and can be a liability in a fight. I've noticed that many women, gay or straight, who take responsibility for their own protection will either cut their hair short or wear it up.
