What did Hugo Chavez mean
when he said OPEC boosting oil production would be like, "giving a sick man the wrong medicine." Was he being genuine and suggesting alternative fuels, or was he just being an a-hole and trying to keep production low to keep prices high. I'm just really surprised he would say that.

1. he's an @ss. but I was amazed Bush got caught trying to
take him down. It is what makes me think Bush group is so tied to the REAL OPEC countries. Venezuala is opec, but Chavez tries to throw a wrench in their machinations every so often. Actually, most of OPEC nations are guilty of selling more than the agreed-upon amounts of oil.

Anyway, I think he is trying to stick with the OPEC message rather than lose his head.

3. he's just taunting the US
he's holding on for dear life and the majority of Venezuelans that support him have no one else on their side or even paying attention to him. If I were a poor, majority Venezuelan I'm sure I'd vote for Chavez.

2. Mr. Chavez doesn't think the problem is lack of supply.
He says it's speculation, lack of US refining capacity, and
the boondoggle in Iraq that are responsible for US fuel
shortages. That's a reasonable position IMHO. Have you
any IDEA how much fuel the US military goes through when
pursuing one of these little colonial ventures?

4. Bush tried to overthrow him ...

This is Chavez trying to overthrow Bush. If anything, I think that Chavez will back off on production to drive oil prices even higher.

Meanwhile, President DUMBASS is FILLING the strategic petroleum reserve at RECORD PRICES.

Thanks DUMBASS!!!!!!!

Perhaps a good side effect will be make fuel-efficient technologies more economically competitive. We could see a spike in green power investments since all their costs are inherintly FIXED. Once you set up solar power and wind turbines, they pretty much make free power with little or no maintenance.

5. no wonder his businesses failed. buys at record prices....
seeks to raid our budget with Iraq and Afghanistan supplementals while not curtailing but EXPANDING the budget of our conventional military firepowr which is clearly not the answer to terror threats.

This is just sick.

7. Whether it's facetious or not...he's right

Even though we all could use some help now at the gas pump, it's better we realize oil's not going to get cheaper, and in less than 100 years (maybe sooner), we'll be out.

Also, he's going to do what's right by his country. Higher gas prices means more money for his country, bottom line.
