47. 50 years = 18,250 days. That's a long time to learn and grow up.
I'm glad he can admit he made mistakes. I'm glad he's adult enough and introspective enough to realize that he screwed up and work to amend those screw ups. (My husband is from the area, and Byrd has worked hard to make amends to the African American and Jewish Communities.)

Since there's not a perfect person on the planet, (unless you're applying for the job, and if so, shall we start with water into wine, Yupster?) I'd rather have someone with the ethical courage to admit mistakes, make amends, and get on with the business of being a representative.

Far better to have someone with those guts than say, a Ben Campbell, who is a real traitor. Good riddance.

I have no problems with any Democrats.

We need all the help we can get, so I pretty much love anyone who isn't in office supporting stupid tax cuts for rich people, rolling back environmental protection laws, reinstating a two-tier class system (eliminating the middle class), or any other of the many, many, many, many horrible things rethuglicans do.

Oops! Almost forgot to say welcome to DU!. :hi:

13. Um, Springer was mayor of Cincinnati
His talk show has nothing to do with politics these days (it apparently started that way, but 'evolved' in a hunt for ratings). Also, when he was contemplating running for office again, he decided that the show would detract from his campaign, and wisely decided against running.

19. Seriously, have you seen his show lately????
I understand the need to separate one's politics from their work, but his show (yes, HIS show) is repulsive beyond any reasonable explanation. It is the most blatant exploitation of the poor and uneducated, possibly in history.

And yes, he was Cincinnati's mayor (or actually, commissioner or something...not exactly mayor but inded a powerful position) and had to resign from that position because of a scandal that errupted when he USED A CHECK to pay for a hooker.

In my book, he's a HUGE embarrassment, but hey, that's just me.

48. Never made a mistake? Wow.... can I kiss your hem?
/sarcasm

since I think that Springer's also pro-legalization for regulated prostitution, it sounds like he was following his ethics.

That said, he perhaps should have hit the ATM.... but again, he's human. Why the hell do we expect the politicians to be better behaved than the rest of us?

I say "the overweight film director," b/c to my constant shame Michael Moore is also the name of my father who is of NO relation whatsoever to Fatty McFattersons (the overweight director one).

Sorry to all you cats out there who like him, but let's be honest, he's no better than Ann Coulter. They are two sides of the same coin.

I hate to say Sharpton, because I like the way he speaks, but his baggage is pretty bad.

A runner-up might be Ted Kennedy because of the Kopechne incident, but he is so effective as a member of the Senate and as an orator that I cut him a bit of slack.

Overall, I'm very proud of most of our democratic pols.
