My Father (REPUB) Voted For Bush* ..... He Just DONATED To DEAN!
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 03:56 PM by matcom
Matcom's note: i personally have NOT decided on a candidate yet. (Dadcom) did this on his own, based (FINALLY) on research.

Matcom's note #2: Dadcom is ex CIA, a repuke all his life, political neophite until given the facts, voted for Bush*, etc.. etc..etc..

-IF you don't already know and follow the story of my father, just ask. even if I am not around, SOMEONE will fill you in

Dad just called. He just wrote a check to the DEAN campaign for $100. Dad knows the players in the admin. he worked with MANY of them. following is a short summary of what is now behind HIS reasoning:

-Dean is the only candidate willing to denounce this "PHONY WAR"

-Dean has brought politics BACK TO THE PEOPLE

-Dean is NOT the phenomenon.... the "PHENOMENON" (Grass Roots) launched Howard Dean

-Kerry had his opportunity. he fucked it up. he was the BEST voice against this war and he chose NOT to be strong. he wears a "pink tutu"

-No other candidate has the guts to galvanize the electorate and stand up to the coruption

-the "Grass Roots Movement" is the ONLY way to get this country out of the clutches of the NeoCons.

one final note. my father is BY NO MEANS a DEM! he DID change his party affiliation to "Independant" shortly after the start of the war. he has learned a TON since finding the Internet. i am VERY proud to say, he has learned a TON from me.

Dad,

Don't know yet if i will follow suite yet (endorsing Dean) but i want you to know that you are an inspiration for thousands who are trying to "educate" the public regarding the high crimes this administration perpetrates on an HOURLY basis.

I am proud as hell to be your son and want to thank you for opening your mind to the FACTS.

I Love You.

-Matcom

1. That is really great.
It certainly speaks well of you as an educator and your father as a person willing to see what is true.

27. Big parts of it, IMO
All he needs to be able to do is to get his message out there relatively unfiltered. He'll NEVER win over social conservatives (fundies), but he's got a great message.

Civil unions could be the main sticking point, but I think he's got an iron-clad response for that (other than for the die-hard fundies whose vote we'd never get anyway): It's about equal rights. I want everyone to have the same rights I do.

Dad had come around so brilliantly, but Kucinich is denouncing this war for what it is, too! Bless his heart~ Dennis is out there working for the truth! And I'm for Dean!

I've been for Dean since about a half an hour after Gore said he wasn't going to run and I've seen no reason to change. ..It's only gotten stronger! :-)

11. that is terrific
It's always good to hear a story of someone getting politically empowered! (especially when they switch from Republican to Democrat... gotta be honest)

I'll be interested to ask my dad what he thinks of Dean, if he's read the Time cover story (I'm sure he has). He is a self-identified "independent" who used to be a Republican but is now disgusted with Bush Jr & co. However, I think he might be disgusted to the point that he won't vote at all.

18. i agree with you
After re-reading my post, I'd say that my dad is more disgusted with the government and politics in general than specifically with Dubya et al. I don't know if he has the faith in the system to switch parties.

However, my mom is mad as hell at Bush. I'm curious what she thinks about Dean too. We are going to see Molly Ivins speak in a couple of weeks, yeah!

14. As a Dean supporter, I welcome your dad
but I disagree partly with him on this point

-Dean is NOT the phenomenon.... the "PHENOMENON" (Grass Roots) launched Howard Dean

I think that the "Phenonmenon" worked both ways. Like a good doctor, Dean listened to his patient (the American electorate, specifically alienated Democrats and left-leaning Independents), did some research into the problem and devised a strategy or treatment program to treat what ailed his patient. Unlike the other candidates, Dean worked WITH his patient as a partner, not as a dictator or overlord.

As a person who works as a software engineer in a customer service field, I do my programming to serve my customers needs or make their work easier, not just to fiddle with bits and bytes. To do that I have to listen to how they do things currently, what aggravates them about their work and what they would like to be able to do that they can't do under the current system. With that information, I can devise a system the meets most if not all their needs and desires.

One of the problems that I see in the Democratic Party, and I see this in my Democratic Town committee as well, is that the Party's customer service program SUCKS!!!! Personally, I've never felt welcomed in the party, which is one reason why I left it over 10 years ago. I returned last year because I saw what Bush did in 2000 and that leaving the Party didn't make it better. It made it weaker. Not that I alone can solved the Party's problems, but that my voice needed to be heard within the party whether they liked it or not. I'm more confident in myself now and understand customer service concepts better now than I did when I left the party 10 years ago, so I now voice my opinion even though I know that right now they most likely won't like it, but someday they will agree to some of it, if not all of it.

28. Not only that...
...but it makes anyone who listens and agrees re-evaluate how the media and the GOP frame issues. Easy labelling, slander, whatever. They say, well hell, I've been a Republican for 20 years, but what he says makes sense, does that mean I'm a liberal? It's an open door to opening a mind, evaluating issues based upon the facts present and honestly presented, and it can do absolute wonders...

-Dean has brought politics BACK TO THE PEOPLE

-Dean is NOT the phenomenon.... the "PHENOMENON" (Grass Roots) launched Howard Dean

I really like that third point. But the "phenomenon" in question couldn't/wouldn't have happened without the first two points being true.

:-)

Toast to Dadcom! And to his fine son too:

It sounds as if your Dad is a very intelligent man, and gathers the news for himself, not relying on the radio talk shows etc. I couldn't
be happier for you, and for the rest of us. He's moving in the (right)or should I say, the (correct) direction by changing his party affiliation to Independent.

I was talking to my MD, who was raised Republican. She said Bush is dangerous and has ruined our relations with other countries, which can only lead to an increased threat of terrorism. She said,"I don't care who the Democrats run, I'm voting Democratic in 2004. Bush must be stopped!"

46. Matcom I know this is not your dad, but
In the current Newsweek, with HD on the cover, they insinuate(note: them, not me) that GOPers are donating to the Dean campaign because they know * can beat him. They use the paltry example of one Freeper who sent in 25 bucks. This is along the lines of the Rovespeak, "heh-heh thats the one we want"
