Pope calls Bush the Anti-Christ?
Edited on Fri May-07-04 05:51 AM by malatesta1137
"Bush's blood lust, his repeated commitment to Christian beliefs, and his constant references to 'evil doers,' in the eyes of many devout Catholic leaders, bear all the hallmarks of the one warned about in the Book of Revelations - the anti-Christ. People close to the Pope claim that amid these concerns, the Pontiff wishes he was younger and in better health to confront the possibility that Bush may represent the person prophesized in Revelations... According to journalists close to the Vatican, the Pope and his closest advisers are also concerned that the ultimate acts of evil - the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon - were known in advance by senior Bush administration officials. By permitting the attacks to take their course, there is a perception within the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy that a coup d'etat was implemented, one that gave Bush and his leadership near-dictatorial powers to carry out their agenda. "

29. Sadly, I don't think it will. My parish has been so pro war in spite of
the Catholic teachings on war that it is sickening. :(

Let's see if this reaches mainstream American media. I doubt it.

18. It's had a year to do so
and I don't recall any other stories anywhere else. The Pope has met Cheney and Powell since the article was written. Does Madsen normally have good contacts inside the Catholic church?

8. Whew--that's pretty over the top even for me--scary though
This article brings out very well the point that Bush is an evil man fronting an evil ideology--but the Anti-Christ?

9. Old article, link fix
This story is from over a year ago, FWIW... what's Rome say lately?

Not being a religious guy, I don't put much stock in any of this, but to me, it seems that the Catholic church is the only Christian faith with a real "pedigree" -- supposedly tracing back to one of the Apostles, right? Aren't most of the other denominations something of "splinters" from the Catholic church? Speaking out of almost pure religious ignorance here, so feel free to correct me.

If this story accurately reflects the Pope's comments, that's a pretty strong indictment, since I don't think they remotely referred to Hitler as the anti-Christ.

You know, maybe the Rapture occurred years ago, but so few people were "pure of spirit" that nobody noticed...

11. So if the pope really believes this
and he believes he is too old and sick to take on such evil, maybe it's time to step down?

At least if he steps down while he is still alive, he might have some influence on who gets picked to be his successor and it better not be a member of Opus Dei.

15. According to the bible
there will be antichrists. That is plural, not singular. It seems that at the opening of the 21st Century we have more than a couple of candidate that qualify for the job?

19. There's some crack journalism
Or maybe the journalist is just on crack.

I don't know, maybe the Pope thinks the monkey is the beast. But that article reads like 70% opinion and 30% conjecture. The closest he comes to citing an actual source is to say, "well-informed sources close to the Vatican." Well, who would that be? Someone who owns a souveneir stand on St. Peter's square? Who are these sources?

I hate this "unnamed sources" crap, and most of the time DUers do too. Nobody would be giving this a moment's thought if it was the typical, "Informed sources close to the Clinton family say Hillary's a lesbian and drinks the blood of goats."

I'm not suggesting that the Pope has never considered that bush* might be the anti-Christ... maybe he has. But this article does absolutely nothing to convince me he has.

21. The Bible says "In the end days, there will be many that say Lord, Lord
- This is Bush - he says Lord, Lord all the time.

But the anti-christ will display super-natural abilities, so tht does leaves Bush out.

22. Teflon Coating as supernatural power
Couldn't Bush's ability to still prevail in so many polls after all the crap that's come out count as a supernatural power? I have trouble understanding how any intelligent person could support him so I'm starting to warm up to the idea that he's in league with Satan.

24. You go to Iraq, you go without God! - Pope John Paul II (March '03)
I am no strong devotee of Pope John Paul II, but had he had come to me and told me not to do something, I would have listened. He is after all the holy father of the Catholic Church.

Bush did not listen to the pope, in fact he ignored him. Now we see the hell that he was forewarned against.

The message of Pope John Paul II to Bush has been spread to the churches, I know that much.

I hope that Pope John Paul II lives a long life. His accomplishments are many. He is far from being dead and gone and I don't think we've heard the last from him.

I too believe that Bush is the anti-christ. :( :scared:
