I started out spanking my child. I was spanked, or rather, beaten with kitchen utensils and had hair brushes and shoes lobbed at me by a shrewish, little woman. One day I realized that I was using physical violence against a person 1/5th my size. Granted, she was well padded, but it just seemed ridiculous to me. I never spanked her again. However, I did lob tupperware at her several months ago.

neither I or my brother were ever spanked, we both turned out just fine. My parents didn't need to use fear on us, we loved and respected them without that and behaved BECAUSE we loved them. My mother was abused by her mother both physically and emotionally and she decided that she would NEVER do that to her own children and she never did. :thumbsup: :-)

and survived, like running into traffic. my sister, who's six years younger than i, got spanked as a fairly major part of discipline. we'll see how that turns out.

I was spanked on rare occasions. I knew I had done bad stuff when I got spanked. I have no children, but would consider it in extraordinary circumstances.

How old is too old? When they turn round and 'Skittles' on you, that would be too old. Your child(ren) should be able to call the cops by the time they're 7ish*, so that might not be a good gauge.

*they should know how to use the phone, and know their home address, etc. by that age, I would think. or not, what do I know about raising younguns :shrug:
