Newest Fox News Broadcast Partner: BP Stations
Edited on Mon May-03-04 07:20 AM by markus
I went to fill up my car in Bismark, N.D. on Saturday morning. As soon as the gas started flowing, on popped an LCD screen with Fox News. And the volume was defeaning, as if set to be heard over a running engine in the high winds of North Dakota.

Anyone else have this unpleasant experience?

I went to bp.com and sent them a nasty note telling them I would avoid their stations in the future as For Republicans Only if they are going to force me to listen to Fox News while I pump gas.

They're lucky I didn't have a paper clip handy. If I'd been at work and had my briefcase handy, I would have punched out the speaker cone.

1. I think punching out the speaker cone would be
considered vandalism. Good thing you didn't have a paper clip handy.

2. I just read another thread about pro-chimp signs at a Sunoco..
gas station. The VRWC is pretty good at getting their message out, though thats about the only thing they are good at.

3. Couple More Suggestions...
I don't BP around here...still boycotting from the Amoco days and now a new reason to keep it going.

I'd suggest, if you're that adventurous, to find out who owns that station. It may be a local owner/operator, and the video crap may be their deal...or a regional distributor. Honestly, BP may not know this is going on at one of their stations. If it's a chain-wide thing, we'll soon find out on here, I'm sure.

If it is a local thing, you and some friends can do a lot to make life for that operator hell until that annoyance is removed. Obviously, LTTE proposing a local boycott is a good start, see if you can get on a local radio talk show (even wingnuts love having us "liberals" on to take target practice at...take the airtime, you may get a new friend) and also see if you can park a car or truck in front of the station (on public property) with protest signs. Make noise, but not being obnoxious.

Other things you may be able to do...if you have friends in the righ places...measure the sound coming from that speaker...see if it violates local ordinances (and most town have them...for outdoor bars) about noise level, or file complaints with the city, BBB, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and any other place you can scream at. He may not remove the video, but he's sure gonna get a light shined on him he didn't expect.

4. Fox News
Fox News is like North Korean state TV.

That's what all our media will be like if Bush wins again, and we descend into fascism.

5. All right. My boycott of BP stations is on!!
It's easy to drive by these stations and buy gasoline elsewhere.
