Richard Morrison, Ben Konop and others
I'm a democrat, 26 years old who's fairly well off. Why should I give to the campaigns of Morrison, Konop, and Seemann? By Kos's account, they live in districts that have at least a 65 to 35 percent republican advantage.

How does a candidate overcome that? No matter how much money one has, can anyone defeat the average Christian voter's impulse to vote "R"?

I apologize, but my answer is no. These fundimential brainwashed Christians are beyond repair. If you're Democrat, then you're a Baby-Killer. So go fuck yourself. That's just the way it is.

How does a Progressive Democrat survive in this climate? I live in rural Cape Cod (in MA) and I see nothing but Lexuses and Benzes and I think "who do these people care about?. Themselves or thier neighbors?."

Of course I know the answer. They're all Repubs. They care about themselves. They want to keep the Africans and Mexicans and darkies out of our lovely town.

How does one change these people? Is it hopeless? Can the greedy be taught to empathaize for those less fortunate? I fear not.

Your thoughts?

1. Tom DeLay is NOT invincible....

SUGARLAND) -- A congressional poll shows that the continuing corruption controversies swirling around Tom DeLay have clouded the Majority leader's chances of re-election to his District 22 seat southwest of Houston.

The private poll, conducted by Harstad Strategic Research, shows DeLay's numbers as low as they have ever been since he was elected to Congress nearly 20 years ago.
According to the poll:
* Forty-eight percent of district voters rate DeLay's performance in office "fair to poor."
* Only 36 percent say they intend to vote for him in November.

2. I should amend my post
Edited on Sun May-02-04 09:52 PM by Rainless Blur
I've already given what I can to Morrison's cause. But after I did so, I asked: "What is the point?" Either the Fundies are going to come out in droves to re-elect Delay or his minions will fix the vote somehow.

Again I ask, how does a progressive survive? We can't resort to thier tactics, can we? Will we ever win over the Bigots of the South (who should be on our side?)

Edit: The south is the key to everything. Northeastern Democrats with much larger balls than my own have already moved to Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and Lakeland. 20 years from now, I'm next, baby.

4. Once Upon a Time, Texas was a Democratic state...
I still hope someday we will be again. Maybe someday enough people will wake up to the fact that the Republican party has done NOTHING to improve their lot in life. Considering the fact that DeLay's numbers are dropping like rocks, and so are Governor Goodhair Perry's, I am gaining a bit more faith in my fellow Texans.

3. Whatever the odds....
.... I went against one of my core beliefs (never trust anyone named Richard) and donated a few bucks to his campaign.

I don't find it that hard to believe that people are fed up to the gills with Mr cheese-eating-surrender-monkey DeLay.

Money will not win a race but poverty will definitely lose one. Even if the odds are 5 to 1, I'm willing to gamble to sprinkle some chlordane on the bug man.

5. I live in a wealthy liberal city (80,000) that voted 80-20 for Gore.
So I'm obviously not convinced that money makes you a Republican. There comes a point when people just get fed up. The question is whether or not Democrats are going to be able to capitalize on it.
