Is Bustamante Best For California and America?
I just read on another thread, and verified it here:

http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2004/lieberman/lieborgca.html

that Bustamante is the state Chair for the California Lieberman campaign. I had no idea! I, for one, don't support Lieberman at all. I hope he folds early. I certaintly would not hope that the Governor of our bluest state would be pushing for Lierberman.

So, California DUers, if Bustamante is a Lieberman crony, do you WANT this guy as your Governor?

5. What Conclusion Should We Draw?
He's the State Chair of Lieberman's California campaign. Bustamante is to Lieberman in California as Katherine Harris was to Bush in Florida.

What else are we to think?

7. 1. That's a terrible parallel to draw
2. Maybe the chair for the other candidates was taken and this was not a first choice. He's hedging a bet for a nice job in a Lieberman admin?

O.K?

9. Fair enough...
And I know the Harris analogy was extreme. Harris was/is a criminal. Nothing I have seen about Bustamante leads me to believe he is anything but a public servant (and I say that with the highest respect).

I just think that, as the experienced pol that Bustamante is, his hedging for a job under Lieberman is not so different than Lieberman hedging for advancement by sucking up to Bush.

3. What, are you refusing to vote for anyone who likes Lieberman?
Guess you'll have to cross Al Gore and the Clintons off your list.

6. Thats taking things to an extreme
Neither the Clinton's nor Al Gore is running a Lieberman campaign in any state, and I don't think Gore is the Lieberman supporter you may have us believe.

4. A few answers to that
First of all, I have stated on these boards that I will vote No on the recall and for the progressive, liberal or centrist candidate with the best chance of keeping a Republican out of the governor's office should the recall question carry, as seems likely.

I am voting against the recall in spite of my disenchantment with Governor Davis. While he has done some things I would rather he had not and not done others I wish he had, it was his call to make. Unless he is guilty of malfeasance, then he should be reatined.

This is not a normal election. Even if there is a candidate among the replacements who I believe would make a better governor than Davis -- and there are two or three -- I also believe it undermines our system of government to remove Davis when there is no solid evidence of serious wrongdoing.

As for Bustamante, I would vote for him simply out of spite for those who pushed the recall drive.

8. Me too for all the above reasons,
however, I am vascillating between Bustamante and Sanchez. I think it will be Bustamante though because according to the constitution this is who is supposed to succeed the governor if he can't be governor anymore. We have to stop letting the neo-cons attempt to trash our constitutions and our laws caught in the backlash by default.

10. I like that reasoning too
Got to follow the rule of law, even if you don't always agree with it sometimes. The USSC didn't follow the law selecting * but that don't mean they can't get their payback in other ways.
