April Soldier Deaths now at 132? (or more?)
10 more dead this morning. did Blumenthal miss any when he posted his Salon article today? does this include Afghanistan?

By far, April has been the bloodiest month -- 122 U.S. soldiers killed, compared with 73 last April in the supposed last month of the war. The unending war has inspired among Bush's backers a rally-'round-the-flag effect, a redoubling of belief.

6. Thank God that is wrong - they even appear to be backing down a bit
Seems we've agreed to an all Iraqi police force to police and remove the criminals that burned the 4 bodies.

But the Mission Accomplish 1 year aniversary this week will be interesting Bush PR moment.

9. pulling out of Fallujah in favor of an Iraqi force - I am hoping this
means someone with brains is finally in charge.

But the overnight dead count was horrible.

10. A second unit of the Iraqi armed forces has mutinied at Fallujah
so, which Iraqi army is going to handle things in Fallujah???

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/story.jsp?story=516306

29 April 2004

A second unit of the Iraqi armed forces has mutinied at Fallujah after being involved in heavy fighting with insurgents Ali Allawi, the Iraqi Defence Minister, said yesterday.

Part of the 36th battalion of the paramilitary Iraqi Civil Defence Corps revolted last week after the unit had been fighting in the besieged city for 11 days, the minister told The Independent yesterday. Mr Allawi blamed the mutiny on "a failure of command. The commanding officer was absent, his deputy ... was seriously wounded and the number three faltered"
