Betrayal of Hope"
"American and foreign troops are fighting a second war in Iraq. This war is against the Iraqi people, not against Saddam's regime. The fact that the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) has failed to establish law and order in Iraq, a year after the fall of the tyrant, is evidence enough to conclude that US policy in post-Saddam Iraq is a complete failure."

1. A Failure only because of Arrogance on our Part.
The emphasis is on US not WE, thus we reap what we sow.

2. The Bush Admin excuses...
...for the continued fighting are confounding all sane, rational people everywhere. Can you believe that even now, in April of 2004, when listening to members of the Bush Administration try to indicate who it is our troops are fighting, they STILL refer to remnants of the forces of the former regime?

That would be like the Russian government, if say Vladivostock were trying to secede, referring to "remnants of the Red Army" simply because a few former officers of the old Soviet armed forces were among the insurgents.

While the Administration tries desperately to spin and demonize (using stock footage, as it were, of an enemy they invested so much into painting with their special brush) and put the best face on a nightmare scenario, it is clear that the insurgency that they now face is a popular uprising to evict but the latest in an ancient series of foreign occupiers.

It's clear by now that the Baathist regime is finished, even if the US were to immediately withdraw, simply by virtue of the sheer weight of numbers of Shia forces in Iraq. Only those self-deluded and easily led could will themselves to believe otherwise.
