Do Americans care more about higher gas prices than soldier's lives?
I just finished watching that stupid bush commercial about John Kerry
agreeing to a 50 cent per gallon tax on gas (I've seen it 4 times). I guess gasoline is worth our soldier's blood. I would rather pay for high gas prices because of a tax to pay for substantial rebates for hybrid electrics than to pay oil and gas companies higher profits because of OPEC decisions. Because of our greed, it will be necessary to force our society to move into the next technological phase to eliminate our dependency on foreign oil. How can this be wrong ?
I wish Kerry could link Iraq, oil, environment, greed, soldiers blood, filling the strategic oil reserves during high gas prices to benefit political cronies into one very good concise 30 second political ad. I don't think the American people would understand it anyway.
Thanks for letting me vent !!

3. I think the hardcase neocons willingly and coldly trade lives

for their own financial and political benefit

I don't think the average American consciously decides "I'll trade a soldier's life to keep gas prices below $2.50 through the end of the Summer."

I don't think political reality or cause and effect even register on most Americans. They make political choices just like they consume--it is a 100% emotional decision.

6. If we spent more on gasoline...
but less on military expenditures, we might still be saving money without getting into the disgusting calculus of how much lives are worth.

7. Dunno. I don't cry when I look at the gas pump like I do at the News.
The GOP is trotting out the TAX boogeyman. Every comercial they run, it's all about how John Kerry is gonna raise your taxes. Hell, Boy, Ol' Dubya GIVES us tax BREAKS! He said so!

I know people who are worried that they're gonna have to pay the "Death Tax" when their parents kick. These are people who, if they're lucky, MIGHT inherit $500, a coupla hound dogs, and a CB base station radio. and they think they're gonna have to pay that "Death Tax". Why? because Rush told them they would.

"Yeah, we sent your boy to die in Fallujah, but never mind that, Kerry wants to RAISE YOUR TAXES!!!"
