Air America likely to get San Francisco station soon

A tiny Berkeley AM radio station that carries Chinese and Korean programming is the likely Bay Area home of Air America Radio, a new left-leaning political talk radio network designed to counter conservative talk shows.

KVTO-AM General Manager Harvey Stone says an agreement to carry the network programming isn't official, but he confirms the sides are negotiating.

"If it happens," he says, "it will happen on us."

Inner City Communications Corp., which owns KVTO, (frequency: 1400 AM), KVVN (1430 AM) and KBXR (102.9 FM) in the Bay Area, also owns WLIB-AM in New York, which has been identified as an Air America station. Other stations confirmed are in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Air America said they had no announcement to make about a Bay Area station. Inner City did not return phone calls.

1. Air America displaced
'Black Talk' in NY

And it doesn't sound like the African-American community there is very happy.

Also, looks like they will bump other 'ethnic' stations in CA

2. Air America is a bad idea
I personally don't like this whole idea of trying to emulate Republicans. Just a bad idea.

The fact that their is going to be commercial sponsorship is also troubling, and entangles the democratic party further into corporate control.

I think that Democrats should work to make more airspace available to the public for political discourse. That would be far more effective and less compromising.
