19. This Bartlett kid is a threat
He looks good, is well-spoken, and lies like a rug.

I have heard him say about ten times today that Clarke was at the White House 8 years before their mere 230 days.

ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!! He was there eight years plus the four with Bush the first, and however many he was with Reagan!

He also cited him for reporting on cyber-crime, and Ray Suarez let him get away with it without noting that Condi had put him in charge of cyber-crime.

I'm spitting nails.

8. On the book coming out during the political season:
"This book would have come out three months ago if the White House had cleared it"

12. Why does the WH get to approve books?
Is that the new SOP in Bush's fascist Amerika?

14. Anything dealing with national security issues
especially from someone who worked in this area for so long, should be cleared so that 'sensitive' information isn't revealed. It's also a good CYA move on Clarke's part.

9. This is pretty darn good.
He's getting an opportunity to respond to everything the WH has been spewing out today.

Unfortunately, Newshour is giving the WH spokesman the last word. More spin and revisionist history... :-(

to mention that Clarke was appointed by Reagan and was retained by Bush senior.

15. That's his job.
It's the journalist's job to call him on it, then he should have some smoke ready for that, too.

It's usually better to blow pre-smoke for it originally, but if you expect to not be challenged then it's probably better not to, if you get away with it. I have heard that he was not challenged at all during this bit.

I expect nothing less than lies, deception and spin from these jerks, but the journalists should do their job and at least try to get the information in the report, even if it's just an unanswered question.

Bartlett is beginning to morph into John Erlichmann in my mind. His day will come.
