God DAMMIT I hate the media!
Im from Minnesota and watching one of our local stations. Newscaster comes on with the following line "Thousands rally in support of defense of marriage at the state capitol" THEN they show an aerial view of the thousands and any moron can see there are a few hundred TOPS! ARRRGGGGGGGG! But of course did we hear a fuckin word about the anti war protests on the anniversary? Of course not. Oh and of course Tim "butthead" Pawlenty was there supporting the bigots....jesus.

4. Go pick up the phone and call them right NOW.
Do it. With your outrage. Right now. Tell them EXACTLY how you feel about it. DO it. DON'T waste this energy. USE IT!

My advise, anyway, whatever you feel comfortable with.

8. the thing is if you're from the Twin Cities
you know how big that area is. We have many events there annually. And anybody can gauge how large a crowd is.

13. We really do need to do a
march to the capitol in support of equal rights and fill the fucking plaza and SHOW these asshole just exactly what thousands of people look like. <sigh> I can hear it now..."silent airwaves....................." Hell it would be worth it to just irritate that prick Pawlenty.

10. Yeah, but if they start realizing it's you and a WHOLE LOTTA other people,
they won't dare give you any more "thanks for your input and fuck you" responses. They're gonna know that, if there are big enough number of you, one of you is likely to have a ratings book to fill out...

9. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! LISTEN TO beam_me_up!
Do it! CALL THEM UP! If they're local, it can't cost that much! We're only getting the media we deserve because far too few people are actively trying to hold the media's feet to the fire. When's the last time you wrote a letter to the editor, or emailed the columnist or reporter of a story or commentary you saw? Or called your congresscriter to complain? See my sig line for info on that. Otherwise, TAKE BACK THE MEDIA (as that site itself says)

Note this marvelous post that I'm relaying from another resourceful DUer...

Use the responses to strike back at the attacks, here and elsewhere.

11. Document it, document it, document it...
and TELL them you are documenting EVERY instance of outrageous conduct.Tell them in writing that you AND others are documenting these incidents as PROOF that they are not acting in the public interest!!

Tell them that there are going to be a lot of very nasty letters awaiting them when they go to renew their license!!Might not make a difference now, but when the Dems take over and they have a HISTORY of not acting in the public interest...THIS WILL SCARE THEM SPITLESS, especially if you write them a letter every time they mess up and document this for the FCC. And get your FRIENDS on this too.

AND take down the advertisers who support this "news" show. Write each of them a letter saying you will not buy their product since they support such shoddy journalism, and mention specific instances of shoddy and biased journalism.HIT THEM IN THE POCKETBOOK.

15. Right ON!
I want a REVOLULTION in this country. And the place to begin, in my opinion, IS THE MEDIA.

Back in the 60s, organized civil disobedience MADE A DIFFERENCE. One of the targets then was institutionalized racism. When enough people were WILLING TO GET ARRESTED TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM THE SYSTEM CHAGED.

Now we have a different situation. We have not only UNRESPONSIVE media, we have MEDIA THAT IS NOT OPERATING IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST. We can DOCCUMENT THAT. We can CONFRONT THEM with that. And, if they continue to be unresponsive, we can CREATE NEWS THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO COVER BY PROTESTING AND ACTS OF DIRECT CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE DIRECTED AT THEM.

14. I'm very familiar with how local TV News works....
When you call a newsroom....there's a chance you're
speaking with a college intern.

Ask for the executive producer or the news director. Those two have major say in what goes on the air.

If you're really, really, really pissed off about something, ask to speak with the general manager. That's the CEO of the television station.

You start mentioning calling advertisers or that you'll be watching a different station to get your news...YOU WILL get them to listen to you....especially if others call as well.

Good luck!! :bounce:

17. I've given up on watching local news.
When my spouse and I moved to the Twin Cities from S.F., we were shocked by local news. It's limited to total fear-mongering OR "Puppies were born today in Edina.." From what I've seen in other cities since then, we are not alone. Local news in L.A. and South Florida is horribly sensational.

That said, I think the idea of being a media watchdog for local news is a great and important idea, since that is the ONLY news some people watch and I actually do know people that don't read the newspaper.
