High Priority Target - Huh?
Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 03:06 PM by ThomWV
Two days now the news has been full of it. Pakistan has surrounded a "high priority target'. No matter how dispicable the SOB might be he still has a name. The news services should use it. I understand that the idea is to demonize and then reduce the enemy to the status of 'it' rather than 'him' but that is no excuse for public communications services to misuse the language.

It just seems more and more like a PsyOps world to me every day.

1. I heard his name mentioned several times--
Al Zawahiri, OBL's #2 man.

They say "high-value" to indicate his prominence and to inform those who don't know the name that he is more than just a common "foot soldier."

Presumably.

BTW-- I don't care if this guy has a name or not, or whether it is used or not. He's just death-loving POS to me.

2. Because that makes it a more informative headline.
If the headline just says "Al Zawahiri surrounded," not everyone will know what that means, who that is, what the implications are. With "High priority target," much more information is conveyed.

6. How many people here use the asterisk instead of Bush?
How many people here say "Repugs" or "freepers"? I think that's a good deal worse than saying "High-priority target."
