and I remember JJ well...what a bummer.

I was in sixth grade was MTV started. He was the host recently of a syndicated show called "The Beatle Years."

He'll be missed.

J J Jackson was a DJ at radio station KLOS in Los Angeles in the early 70's, and I believe also sat for a stint at KMET (Now Defunct) ....

He was a regular joe kinda guy: always mild and never condescending ...

80's people are dying now...and not from suicide.

Fuck...I was there with him when MTV went on the air.

Those who are the children of the 90's, please realize this: Once upon a time, MTV was cutting-edge TV. It was BRILLIANT TV at the start. Even a decade in, MTV had a bit of the edge.

Then came the Real World...and MTV died. Oh, it's still on, but it's a zombie of the channel it once was.

I remember when MTV was cool. They actually had to create another channel to play videos: MTV2. Yes, younger generation, MTV DID play videos not-so-long ago.

Remember the Live Aid concert? I heard it's coming out on DVD actually.

14. I was stationed in Germany when MTV debutted

and my Sergeant Major had to come stateside on business.

He taped 24 hours of MTV for the staff and his kids.

I was blown away!!!!!!!

I played those tapes so much that they became fuzzy from use. I'm still a huge Billy Idol fan to this day (among other 80's artists).
