Poll question: Will the GOP convention in NYC at the 9/11 anniversary backfire?
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 07:18 PM by Timefortruth
The tide is turning, but the strategic decision to have the convention so close to the anniversary may not be as good a maneuver as it seemed at the time.

How does it look?

Edited to correct typo.

1. I don't think the arrogant GOP has ANY idea
of what they're going to be stirring up! And the fact that they're vilifying 9/11 families who are criticizing their politicization and exploitation of 9/11 not only shows their true colors, but helps the public see their true colors as well!

2. I'm thinking, by the time their convention rolls around
any attempt by Shrub to politicize 911 will go over like a lead balloon. His lame ads have now sensitized people to the issue. Rove has got to be completely verklempt right about now...

3. Disaster. Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.
As my Grampy used to say. I'm going to see what I can do about showing up and helping to ruin some photo ops.

4. It will be tricky
But that strategy might back fire. Right now their big strategy is to run against Kerry, but conventions are about running for something; might make them look kind of pathetic.

8. Methinks it will be disrupted or shut down because of protests

9. It's going to be a big old mess, and I'll tell you why...
Because, on top of everything else, August in New York is fucking *hot.* *Humid.* *Awful.* And this is supposed to be the hottest August on record. And people are already *not* in a good mood. I'm actually having some trepidation over this. I'm thinking it may be more "Do The Right Thing" than a recap of last year's anti-war protests. I remember thinking at the time part of the reason things went so (relatively) smoothly was because it was too friggin' cold to get too agitated--protestors *or* cops.
