If fast food joints are defined as manufacturers what about the 4 Seasons?
and other top restaurants. They're doing the same thing. This is fucking insane! Lies and tax-breaks for all - just give me 4 more years (and maybe we can get rid of term limits).

1. And what about hookers ...
aren't they manfacturing pleasure, or fantasy.

With logic like that, every "job" that exists can be considered manufacturing.

Cheers
Drifter

2. the bushies define manufacturing as mechanicaly, chemicaly combining
two or more substances into a product (I'm paraphrasing). I say hookers are mechanicly and chemicly combining hormones and bodies to produce orgasms. We're all manufacturers of something! I manufacture many of my own orgasms - give me a tax break!

5. You're not contributing to the economy by doing that
You need to sell it to someone else to qualify for a tax break. You're a closed system, so to speak.

25. actually it would be better to be a lobyist - lets figure one out for that
then we could be doing what we do now and actually get some political action out of it. It all seems to depend on the definition. I know DU has some creative minds out there. Let's counteract this!!!

Or so my high-school classmates seemed to believe.

Nope, been a legal resident of the USA since conception. I don't even think I visited Canada while still a collection of cells.

18. in all honesty I haven't had much time to really research it
My breif research shows that this is sa legit idea being tossed around and lobbyed for. And after reading Fast Food Nation it isn't even remotely far fetched. It's a hilarious idea though. When I have a sec - I'll do some real investigation.

13. Life Insurance
Believe it or not, I worked in the financial department of a large insurance company until about a year ago and went to a meeting where the Life Insurance department head referred to "manufacturing" life insurance policies - selling the policy, going through underwriting, putting together a package for the proposal, etc.

I rolled my eyes at that one!

21. Poor people don't go to the Four Seasons...
or work at the Four Seasons. Could you see a snooty, upscale NY restaurant waiter being told that he now belonged to the "manufacturing" sector?? Hell hath no fury....

22. I could hear an underpaid immigrant or illegal alien being told this
and having no power to do anything about it. And if you don't think these people work at the Four Seasons, oh boy! The waiters would be PR/sales people for these manufacturing firms

23. Uhhh....go in the kitchen.....
Many "upscale" restaurants (and justt about every other kind of restaurant) evrywhere in the US will only hire Mexican immigrants now, because they're willing to work for three or four bucks less an hour than a gringo or a black person. Sorry, but it's true; I'm a cook, so I know this....you would not BELIEVE the times I've had in the last year, watching my pay rate go down so hat I'm getting paid less now to do MORE work and harder work than I did five years ago....

Seriously, GO TO THE KITCHEN.

all over the city Immigrant workers were picketing upscale restaurants. That was the Giuliani days, guess how well they were doing?
