Anyone Catch Godless America on C-Span
this morning? I found it so interesting. Keeping God out of politics. I loved the speech. Keep in mind I am a practicing Catholic but I found it very enlightening. Especially About the number of people who have no religion in the US is about 40, million, There are 30 million Roman Catholics and 25 million Baptist and John Ashcroft's church has about 700,000 members. But the smallest churches have the most power. Why? No Church should have any say in our govt

I am happy for people if they need the comfort of religion, and find it.. BUT.....

I resent the hell out of the fact that religions and churches have their hands out to the government.. They get tax-exempt status because it's assumed that by NOT having to pay taxes, it will free up money to "do good works".. What it DOES is allow them to buy property(that they usually don't even need),start radio & TV "ministries" (so that they can get even MORE money). and become hyper-political (so they can affect legislation that gives them even MORE power and money)..

Since the 70's , religion has become just another commodity, and its "leaders" , just hucksters..

There is NO comparison to the ministers/priests/pastors/rabbis of the past. Ministers used to be on the receiving end of donations from their parish/congregation, because most of them were NOT wealthy..

They preached on Sundays, and visited people in hospitals, married people, and generally were just another person in the community..

Big-Religion is a new phenomenon..and it is just as dangerous as the Taliban.. The ones with the Big-Mouth and BIG-Microphone are getting the lion's share of money that they do not even deserve..

I would like to see the government come down HARD on these phony ministries.. Does anyone in their right mind think that Falwell is more preacher than politician?? Robertson even ran for president..

They have found a way to convince lots of people that they are "men of God", and what they say should dictate how EVERYONE lives their lives.. Am I paranoid??

Remember Jim Jones???

3. tThe fact they have formed
an official Political Action Committee and are organizing at
the local state and national levels was most interesting.
I too am Cathoic but found their presentation compelling.
The fact that they believed they had to organize to confront what they perceive as a serious threat to principle of Separation of Church and state.

I too was surprised at their numbers 30,000,000(thirty million)
Atheists and other non-believers.

"We are patriotic, we believe in the Constitution, we believe and live highly moral lives" were points they want to get acroos to the American people.

Their website is Godlessamericans.org
