Idea for Californians: Recall the GOP governor right away.

If a Republican is "elected" upon the recall of Gray Davis, I think Californians should IMMEDIATELY begin a recall signature drive to boot that imposter out of the governor's office. Hit the ground running the morning after election day. The California Republican Party needs to understand that California is a Democratic state and Republicans are no longer welcome in the Golden state.

1. What if.....

Various popular democrats were on the ballot, like Finestein, Brown, Huffington, Maxine Waters, the mayor of San Francisco etc....and they got a strong following..... Would this not get the democratic voter out and ultimately dilute any republican on the ballot....

2. That's not going to happen

The Democrats should run one candidate as a replacement, preferably Feinstein. The message Feinstein would deliver would be to challenge voters to vote to recall Davis only if they think he is guilty of malfeasance, and otherwise explain why she is the best replacement candidate.

Davis' best chance lays in educating voters to what a recall is supposed to be about. People may not like him, but he can convince them that a recall should set a high bar for removal and that his adversaries haven't made the case.

I'm really upset with the entire recall action. If this flies then it will set the ball in motion to continue down the line.....just like the 2000 election and this redistricting manlipulation stuff....

was for Davis to resign and be succeeded by Bustamante, the LT. Gov. Noone likes Davis (he does sux0rz) but he's done nothing to deserve recall.

I know that doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's the way it is.

8. Answer

The Lt Governor takes over as acting governor until the election is held; if Davis is recalled, then the winner of the replacement election becomes Governor and the Lt Governor returns to his duties. If the recall question fails, then the Lt GOvernor becomes Governor and appoints his successor.

In any case, the recall would not become moot by Davis' resignation. If he was going to resign, he should have done so as the signatures were being validated.

let the right wing deal with the shit. we all know the blame for much of the problems with the state belongs to the shit in the white house. if his brother was governor of california we would not be in this shit. let the right wing deal with it. now with the deficit even the gop governor would have a hard time getting funding for the state as can be seen with other gop governors in other states.

I've been assured by those oh-so-learned "recallers" that if we had a Republican governor, all of California's problems would magically disappear overnight. They wouldn't lie to me, would they? ;-)
