"The deficits were caused by the recession and the war on terrorism"
That is the party line - the Republican Party line. As if we have not been in other wars and recessions before. As recessions go, this was considered one of the milder by comparison. And the money we have spent on the war does not account for the huge deficits. So, the poor Repubs are having the wool pulled over their eyes....and we know where wool comes from?

They don't want to admit that they have spent like drunken sailors and they have given away our Treasury to their wealthy friends in the form of taxcuts and now are looking for an excuse to explain away the humongous, threatening deficits. Because in their hearts, they know that those taxcuts are going to bring in revenues to the Treasury and balance that god-awful budget. That's the cornerstone of their faith. Taxcuts bring in more revenues. Too bad their faith is dead wrong.

And now they whine and moan about what true conservtives are supposed to do. They are supposed to balance budgets and cut government spending and look out for the taxpayers monies. But these Republicans simply do not match that blueprint. It's a sad fact that Ronald Reagan and the two Bushes have added more to our national debt than all the Democrats in the history of this nation. That's their idea of "conservatism". Our only hope is that they will be first when our ship goes under.

1. More lies, deceptions and half-truths
The Amerikan Empire, like many other Totalitarian Nations, couldn;t go on without them.

This will become more true and obvious as the Imperial Family cements their unchecked power.

3. Had that same conversation yesterday...
I showed him the numbers and, after trying to argue that he'd read conflicting data and accusing me of saying his source was lying (which I did not do, but certainly could have), he finally shut up about it.
--- THANKS TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HELPED ME FIND THE DATA ---

I was able to show him that not only has revenue decreased dramatically thanks to the tax cuts, but spending has increased at a rate much faster than at any time under Clinton. (In fact, spending has gone up more - by both percentage and dollars - in Bush's three years than in Clinton's eight.)

5. considering...
... that every military operation in the world is lumped under the "war on terror" including invading other countries it's no wonder it's adding to the deficit.

But Hey! Don't worry, their oil fields will generate enough money to pay for most of the rebuilding.

6. No president in history ever cut taxes during a war
But of course the answer is more spending cuts. What goes on between the government and the upper class is none of your damn business. I believe most Reptilicans see government itself as illegitimate. And in our particular case (not in general) they may be right.

7. Does anyone have that graphic of a 9/10/01 story that Bartcop
sometimes runs? I'll see if I can find it.

I didn't but a google of 9/10/01 and economy came up with this;

www.cnn.com/2001/COMMUNITY/09/10/king.otsc/

CNN: The big topic yesterday on the Sunday talk shows was the economy and shrinking surplus. What are some of the arguments we can expect to hear this week and who will we hear from?

KING: Well, you will hear a lot this week, and next .. and next -- the economy will dominate the political debate in Washington. Here are two big questions: some Republicans want another tax cut - cutting the capital gains tax rate - to help spur the economy. But the White House is hesitant because Democrats will call it a boon to the rich. And some want an across-the-board spending cut so the government doesn't tap into the social security surplus. But many economists would argue a cut in government spending is the last thing to do when the economy is slowing. So none of the choices appear easy -- politically or from an economic standpoint.

8. How Convenient!
Simple explanations for simple minds. No, it couldn't be their misguided economic and fiscal policies, could it?
