and what are some of the locations where you've had success?
What other advice can you give to others who realize that this is the most effective contribution (beside voting) we can make to increase our chance of success?
here in Louisiana I belong to a Clark Support Group one of our members has taken the initiative to pick up over 1000 new voter regisatration cards we broght them to the govenor's innauguration, I am registering folks at the Food Pantry when I volunteer each week: we are marching in the MLK parade tomorrow and will have them there also anywhere we go, we bring the cards one of our members will sit outside a groucery store next week with a table and cards....
3. Your best bet is to go and visit a local organizing effort
either at a church, or any civic organization. This year, I see a lot of activity with the organizations that serve primarily the needs of minorities. They can use your help.
and I ask everyone I come into contact with if they are registered. I offer to mail the cards in for them or they may do it themselves. I have had the best luck with the friends of my sons who are either just turning 18 or are the 20 year olds who have never bothered. Some of them do not care until you talk with them but by talking to them about voting I have managed to get them interested in the process. It has been very rewarding.
is a big number. I have been amazed at how little some folks care and how easy it is to show them the importance of voting. We need to start educating students better than we are. Some of them know nothing about the process. I have found that many people just feel beat down by "the man" and no longer feel they can make a difference. It is just so sad. Good for you.
