Egypt Poll Frontrunner Says To Change Israel Tack
By Samer al-Atrush - CAIRO

The frontrunner in Egypt's upcoming presidential election, Amr Mussa, distanced himself from his country's past policies towards Israel and told AFP in an interview his government would be frank with the US.

The outgoing Arab League secretary general said that Egypt's regional standing had diminished under ousted leader Hosni Mubarak, who was seen as a key ally of the United States and Israel.

Mussa said he would maintain a strong but more independent relationship with Washington, which underwrites most of Egypt's foreign aid.

"The policies that we saw were not supported by the people, nor understood by many," said the veteran diplomat who himself served as Mubarak's foreign minister for a decade.

Proberly time for US to say, okay, off with the forreign aid to Egypt - most of it that is in the military field.. Like the Abrams Tanks, the fighters, and the logitich part of it all... My guess is that Egypt would be a far worse situation, if it was not for the "infidels" who are traveling to the country as turist - and the aid Egypt are given from all ovr the place..

I hope Egypt at least is respecting the peace accord with Israel, even tho they might be little more independed about a lot of issues between Israel and Egypt in the future.. One of the key to some stability in the middle east is the peace accord between Israel and Egypt. And if the more "extreme" factions of the Egyptian community was given power - they wil end the peace accord - and maybe trigger a great conflict in the area again. And the middle east do not need any other conflict.. The place is Full of conflicts as it is
