Hurry Up Mr. President! Change No Child Left Behind
Hurry Up Mr. President! Change No Child Left Behind
By Doug Curlee
Santee Patch

During his State of the Union speech last month, President Barack Obama said he felt some changes needed to be made in the “No Child Left Behind” education program for America’s school children.

After an afternoon chat with Santee Schools Superintendent Patrick Shaw, I came to one conclusion- the President can’t move fast enough.

“No Child Left Behind” doesn’t just need revision- it probably needs to go away...

The problem comes in when you realize that we’re dealing with people here- not statistics...

It’s truly a no-win situation- no matter how hard you try, the system is set up so that it’ll NEVER be good enough to satisfy the educational bureaucracies at the state and Federal levels.

3. I spend every day struggling in the wake of NCLB.
If you think back, teachers were uniformly AGAINST it. What we predicted has come to pass, but no one would listen to us in the day.......said we were "whiners".

At the HS level, we now have kids who have been under NCLB their entire school career.....and it shows. The majority of them CAN'T TO ANYTHING! They can't even read & follow directions. Many cannot read. Elementary & middle school teachers have taught to the test because their livelihood depends on it. Our administrators, especially superintendents, have created an environment that forces teachers to generate extreme amounts of paperwork at the expense of TEACHING.

NCLB is the ultimate DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA.

NCLB = Why Johnny can't read.

NCLB = slave labor force.
