GOP, Democrats in pitched battle for Pennsylvania
Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 02:00 AM by struggle4progress
<snip>
The Bush-Cheney training comes off as a balloon-festooned blend of Amway and Saul Alinsky - the radical who pioneered community organizing among workers in the old Chicago stockyards.
<snip>

There are payoffs - and not just for the president: The audience learns that by reaching goals, they can "earn free stuff" - shirts, sweatshirts, caps and cups, all emblazoned with the Bush-Cheney campaign logo.
<snip>

Cal Reszek, a third-generation steelworker who lost his job when the plant closed, is a ticket-splitter who counts Richard Nixon as one of the great presidents.
<snip>

The GOP may be reaching out like never before in Pennsylvania and elsewhere, but Reszek is the type of voter immune to its entreaties. Indeed, he said he's so angry about the direction of the country that he threatened to disinherit his two sons, both police officers, if they vote to keep Bush in office.
