The Gridiron
An interesting essay...I have long thought the best metaphor for this corrupt appointistration is the mercifully defunct XFL.

A typical XFL play: A bunch of blowhards would scream about what a great play we were about to see. Then there'd be a wobbly, incomplete pass, and then the same knot of blowhards would bellow about what a great play we had just seen.

1. He left out an important point
Last year my Big 10 university had a horrible football season, sort of like this administrations term. The difference though is that the football coach had to have a press conference after each game, which I believe alone would put him over 9 total. Most of the conferences got pretty ugly towards the end of the season, with reporters asking such hard hitting questions as how a coach can have a star QB with a coke problem and still claim he has control of the team. I don't think the coach called any of the reporters by their first names or any nick names he thought they'd like.

Anyways, to get to my point, it seems that the coach of my football team had to answer more directly to the people (local fans, students and alumni) than my president. Also note, we have a new coach this year.

2. Great point
Apropos of nothing, I'm a NY Jets fan....during the Bruce Coslet years, after one particularly horrible defeat, the press was told that Coslet was on the road with the team and would conduct his press conference by speaker phone from where ever.

After the press conference ended, the press milled around a bit, then left the room....and caught Coslet coming out of a room down the hall...

And Coslet would make a better president than Spurious George....
