Arrest this man NOW

http://www.reason.com/sullum/042304.shtml

...Although prosecutors admitted Paey was not a drug trafficker, on April 16 he received a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years for drug trafficking. That jaw-dropping outcome illustrates two sadly familiar side effects of the war on drugs: the injustice caused by mandatory minimum sentences and the suffering caused by the government's interference with pain treatment.

Paey, a 45-year-old father of three, is disabled as a result of a 1985 car accident, failed back surgery, and multiple sclerosis. Today, as he sits in jail in his wheelchair, a subdermal pump delivers a steady, programmed dose of morphine to his spine. But for years he treated his pain with Percocet, Lortab (a painkiller containing the narcotic hydrocodone), and Valium prescribed by his doctor in New Jersey, Steven Nurkiewicz

1. Rather than arrest Limbaugh
Let's stop the stupid, reactionary, neo-prohibitionist war on drugs that makes doctors look over their shoulder to see if the DEA is watching every prescription they write.

Discussions and decisions about the most effective means of medical treatment should be only between a patient and their doctor. It's none of the government's business.

2. My problem with rush
I was in a cab once and the driver was listening to limbaugh and I was pretty stupid I guess and I started to make some smartass comments about his show and the driver got a bit irritated (and I was ready to take him on anyways, since I knew he was taking the long route for the extra fare which is stupid since its the 1st minute that counts but anyways...) so i got into it with him and basically the poor driver really didnt know what he was talking about (me being a bigmouthed grad student of course)

except he was holding all the cards and he kicked me out of his cab. i'm not sure who won to this day.

3. Call it a pyrhic ( sp?) victory?
Of course some poor cab driver won't necesarrily have enough background knowledge to express an informed opinion. I would have great reservations about anyone who listens to that fascist moron - to begin with.

The worst thing you can do is to disagree with someone who is focused on security and standard of living issues. juvenile statements - right wing propaganda and outright lies are dangerous things to confront, but I applaud your timerity.

4. Shame
This makes me ashamed to be an american. How the prosecuting attorney can live with himself, or recite the Lord's Prayer -- "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us" -- without feeling his own hypocrisy, I'll never understand.

5. Land of the free, home of the brave with equal justice for all: what a
mockery of about everything decent this nation is supposed to stand for. May the wrath and vengeance of God visit all who were party to this heinous treatment of Paey and those who failed to bring Rush to justice. Not only am I outraged, I'm pist.
