As thousands in Iran turn to the web to make their voices heard around the world, a new report finds telecoms in Europe have helped the Iranian government develop one of the world’s most sophisticated mechanisms to censor the internet. It’s called deep packet inspection, and it’s also being used here at home. We speak with Josh Silver, executive director of Free Press.

1. What's annoying about this ...

... is that everyone and their mother's neighbor is suddenly acting like this is a new thing.

It would have been nice if we'd bothered to pay attention a long time ago when all this technology was being developed and something possibly done about it. We're way through that looking glass now, though.

2. I wish the emphasis was on
the technology being missused everywhere including Iran.
Many people only read the headline and don't see we, in the USA, were the guinea pigs for this intrusion of privacy.

BAA BAA go the sheeple.

3. Obviously our telecom companies are one of America's biggest liabilities
to freedom and the rule of law.
