Some law professor from Liberty University on the Diane Rehm show this morning criticized the legislature in Vermont for being out of touch with its citizens on the issue of same-sex marriage. So, it's pretty much a no-win situation for these people. Fundies everywhere repeatedly condemn courts for being "activist" (which is really to say that they failed to support their own viewpoint on a given issue) and ignoring the will of the people by overturning and/or creating new law by judicial fiat- even though the court's actions are entirely appropriate and within the scope of their jurisprudence. However, now we have a legislature-whose members are supposedly representative of all of the citizens of a given state-passing the legislation and overriding by a sufficient majority the governor's veto of the legislation-thus making it law and the fundies are STILL complaining that the will of the people isn't being represented, at least based on their polling data.
