Entire USA undergoes Stockholm syndrome
I saw this show on CNN and understood the larger ramifications of Stockholm Syndrome on all our lives. Maybe going through a daily security line at NIH everyday complete with lights in your face and dogs and searches makes me more keenly aware of this syndrome...

anyway here is the transcript.

1. Yes, I've thought that for some time.
I was told it's kind of like being a "battered spouse".

3. Physical abuse not torture?
This is a novel concept that this kind of treatment is not considered torture. When I was introduced to this treatment during my military training it was made clear to me that I was being prepared for treatment which was in violation of the Convention. I was told that we do not treat our prisoners this way because it was "torture" but that the enemy did use these techniques because they didn't leave physical evidence of mistreatment to be seen by international red cross inspectors. Anyone who is exposed to it, knows that it is torture.

Some people do break down very quickly. I sincerely doubt that Saddam will be outwitted by his captors. In fact, a politically sophisticated victim of this sort of interrogation is more likely to die in captivity as a result of subtle resistance to its technique. A hunger strike or suicide is a likely response. The interrogators often lose it first and just commence overt beatings of the victim.
