Maureen Dowd: Awake and Scream - 9-16-06
Excerpt:

http://select.nytimes.com/2006/09/16/opinion/16dowd.html&OQ=_rQ3D1&OP=2243a742Q2FgQ3AQ7EBgiXeVVigDHHPgHQ2FgQ7BPgVmQ5EQ5DQ5EVQ5DgQ7BPQ2AVQ3AQ2AZJiMQ7D">Maureen Dowd - Awake and Scream - September 16, 2006

Whenever W. does something legally sketchy and morally ambiguous — from pre-emptive war to spying to torturing — he claims he’s doing it to protect Americans from terrorists. But there’s a more visceral agenda: Vice and Rummy have persuaded W. he will not carry a big stick if bound by Lilliputian legalities, tiresome checks and balances and Kumbaya international conventions. Rather than being alarmed at their battiness, the president naïvely admires what he sees as bravado.

Just as Vice lurked at Langley before the Iraq war, trying to bully reluctant C.I.A. analysts to come up with a Saddam-Osama link, now the White House has maneuvered reluctant J.A.G. lawyers into supporting its dream of undermining justice.

Catching terrorists and protecting Americans can be done without trashing American ideals. This is about throwing off laws to prove that W. is “the Man,” as Vice likes to say, not some wobbly, wavering, multilateral metrosexual.

1. That's right, George is a big boy these days.
His daddy told him so.

3. Thanks, VJen. Even Dowd sounds like she's wearing down a bit
from commenting on the very bad behavior we're witnessing that's costing so many lives, and the US's reputation and ideals.

10. Ahem...
... just look for the ultra-tiny "link" text in my original post.

7. The man really expects to be handed whatever he decides he wants:
Remember this story, for example?

Mexicans on Death Row to Get Hearings
Bush Tells Texas Courts to Review Cases of 51 Denied Consular Aid
By Charles Lane
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, March 8, 2005; Page A02

... Texas courts, the president says, should review the Mexicans' cases to see if the lack of consular access affected their trials or sentencing.

His approach would also greatly reduce the role of the Supreme Court, which has been asked by attorneys for one of the Mexicans, Jose E. Medellin, to rule that the decision of the World Court is all the authority individual foreigners need to get a new hearing in U.S. state courts.

"It is for the President, not the courts, to determine whether the United States should comply with the decision, and, if so, how," the administration's brief says ...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A15355-2005Mar7.html?nav=rss_topnews

That's vintage George. He has no regard for the separation of powers, whether it be the separation between the Executive and Judicial branches or the separation between the Federal and State authorities, and his pretence as the Federal Executive to instruct a State Judicial body what to do passed without much comment. The implied claim, of course, was that he has the ability to strip power from both SCOTUS and State courts.

8. I'll bet MoDo is regretting being such a witch and lying about Gore
But, we'll see what she does when the next election season comes around. Any guesses on how many minutes before she writes a whole column based on a lie that the RNC faxes out about the Democratic candidate?

Whatta presstitute.

9. How does she sleep?
I'd like to know how she does that? I hope she finds herself in the same situation as Lady Macbeth--unable to wash the blood of dead soldiers off of her hands...

11. Not at all fair.
Her career did not begin and end in 2000.

She's been a scathing critic of the Bush Administration. She nailed their entire history, and explained their actions, in her book BushWorld.

Read further... as much as I'd like to have the luxury of holding grudges from the bitter 2000 race, I'm willing to embrace those who saw Dubya for who he is, early into his presidency.

Maureen Dowd is one of those opinion makers. I value her greatly.

12. Read The Daily Howler
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 01:44 AM by Joe Bacon
http://www.dailyhowler.com

See what Bob Somerby has documented about Dowd and how she lied for Bush well after 2000. Especially read the part where she tore General Clark to pieces because she didn't like the sweater he was wearing.

Then study those excerpts Bob's posted about her pathological hatred of Hillary. Whoreen lies any lie about Hillary every chance she can.

BartCop is right about Whoreen Dowd. She hates EVERYBODY!

13. I'd rather talk about the context of the essay than the author...
... but... As much as I enjoy Daily Howler and Bartcop, I'll never call her "Whoreen."

Read her essays following Hurricane Katrina, and then come back here and call her "Whoreen."

15. Whoreen's columns are too little and too late
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 10:15 AM by Joe Bacon
She decided to lock the barn after the animals fled. She can write about Katrina all she wants, but Whoreen cannot get away from the fact that she did everything she could to put Bush in the White House, not once, but twice. Not only can't that liar wash the blood of dead soldiers and innocent Iraquis off her hands, neither can she wash the blood of Katrina's victims off, either!

Lady Whoreen Macbeth, you put yourself in this situation because you became a stenographer instead of a reporter. You lied any lie the Republican bullshit machine gave you. Thousands are dead because of YOU! Live with it, Whoreen.

Until Whoreen apologizes to the Clintons, General Clark, John Kerry AND Al Gore, I will never forgive that liar. Period.

14. She also trashed Kerry before 2004.
And she writes columns that are little more than love letters to John McCain.

She's a tool.
