Iran deploys its war machine
By Iason Athanasiadis

TEHRAN - For Hossein Shariatzadeh, a veteran of the eight-year Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, now navigating Tehran's traffic-choked streets as a taxi driver, the issue of whether the United States will strike Iraq is hardly a frightening prospect.

"This is Iran," he roared. "It is fire. It is a nuclear bomb. Don't look at my sitting behind the wheel of this car. I would get up in a second and head off to the front to fight."

During his 18 months of service at the front, Shariatzadeh claims to have fought in several flashpoint events. Before being evacuated to Tehran after taking a bullet in the stomach, he participated in the 18th Mah, Fath-ul Mubin and Fajrs 1, 2 and 4 offensives, some of the most horrific campaigns of a drawn-out war characterized by trench warfare and tens of thousands of dead in return for minuscule advances.

Despite Shariatzadeh's lust to head to the front and defend his homeland, Iran's strategic planners are acutely aware that a military confrontation with the technologically more advanced US Army would be as rapid and multi-fronted as the Iran-Iraq War was static and slow-paced. Quite simply, there would not be a single front.

4. 'Victory' may be an Iran that is a broken country,
destroyed by a year-long heavy bombing campaign. The US can absorb the cost (loss of 4mbpd oil). Iran cannot. The Iranians believe high cost of oil and the ongoing Iraq war (which they helped to instigate through their agent Chalabi) will prevent the US from attacking. They believe they will be able to complete their nuclear weapons program. They are mistaken. I do not support the war which both sides are preparing for. But it is coming.

2. Here's a little tidbit from Stan Goff:
This is why the US cannot attack Iran:

The primary consequence of any attack on Iran will be the decisive military defeat of the United States in Iraq.

An attack on Iran right now would result in an almost instantaneous and generalized southern Shia insurgency directed against the US occupation. That insurgency would, within weeks, bring about tactical alliances between Shia militias in south and central Iraq and Sunni nationalists and Islamists in the north. The occupation would become literally unsupportable.

5. **PETITION AGAINST MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN**

It is with grave concern that I observe the growing threat of a new U.S. war--this time against the people of Iran.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

thanks,
