COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The audience of young campaign ground troops sat enraptured as the party veteran spun a tale of growing up in Ohio under Democratic leadership. John Glenn's still got it.
The former astronaut and four-term senator, who retired in 1999, says he's taking a more active role in campaigning this year after largely sitting out the 1998 and 2002 statewide elections. He appeared at several rallies for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential campaign.
Democrats are seen as having their best chance in more than a decade to pick up statewide offices because of a still-brewing lobbying scandal in Washington and an investment scandal in the administration of Republican Gov. Bob Taft.
Glenn said last week he's ready to help the Democrats win some of the statewide offices Republicans have held since 1994 or before...
