Bush's greatest asset may be on his way out
By Jason Rhode/Columnist

October 18, 2005

...He and Rove were both aiming in the '80s to be the state's top conservative operative. Weaver started up his own firm and hired away a star from Rove's team. So the Architect started telling people that Weaver, during a state Republican get-together, had tried to hit on a young man. Rove won.

My personal favorite took place in 1994, when Rove ran Harold See's campaign for the Alabama Supreme Court against incumbent Democrat Mark Kennedy. Kennedy, during his time as a judge for the family and juvenile courts, had become an advocate for helping abused children.

A family man himself, Kennedy helped to found the Children's Trust Fund of Alabama in the '80s and the Corporate Foundation for Children a few years later. In 1994, he just finished his term as president of the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect.

Rove began the rumor that Kennedy was a homosexual pedophile...

1. If the writer is going for irony there, I think he missed.
He's laying out all the awful things Rove has been responsible for, but in the end I think he really does admire him.

2. Exact same thing happened with that writer who did Paul O'Neil's book
and write the John DiIulio article. I can't recall his name, but he basically said on Charlie Rose that Bush and Rove lie about evrything, use people ruthlessly, dupe their supporters and have disdain for anyone not in their circle, yet he acted like he admired their show of power. I guess in the same way people still will admire Hitler's evilness.

4. dunno, Ron Suskind always seemed more resigned to it than admiring of it
and really uneasy about it -- especially in his "Without a Doubt" piece from Oct 2004. You know the one re "faith-based" versus "reality-based" community. Worth rereading if you get a chance.

6. That's him. I really got the impression from his Charlie Rose interview
that he felt Bush was a fascinating character who would do anything, pull any string necessary to win.

5. My reply
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the author is still in school being supported by the state and his parents. I wish him luck keeping a job with the mindset he evinces here.

Although you may think it's "cool", frat boy pranks are not a good way to run a country. Take a good look around you. A drunken frat boy has succeeded in running a perfectly good country into the ditch. These people are supposed to lead the country, not trash it and wait for the maid to clean it up.

And yes, that means torturing puppies, drowning kittens in a bag and pulling the wings off of flies is bad too.
