Editorial blindly supports problem that keeps DeLay in office
The Repository used the phrase “political naiveté” to refer to the presentation of a petition signed by 600 citizens to the Belden Village office of Rep. Ralph Regula to force the resignation of Republican leader Tom DeLay.

The editorial (“Let committee decide,” June 3) has confused and confounded Repository readers. What is their view of an editorial that at once condemns citizen participation in the government and blindly supports the very problem that has kept Tom DeLay in office? DeLay and his associates have been accused of an array of crimes.

The Repository said the issue should be left to the House Ethics Committee, a committee selected by DeLay and House Speaker Dennis Hastert. Also in that connection, the House leadership changed the rules to try to keep from censuring or removing DeLay.

What constitutes political naiveté? The views of 600 citizens who signed the petition, or the view that the House Ethics Committee, as it is constituted, can handle it fairly and justly? What do Repository readers think of such editorial provocations that appear oblivious to the real facts?
