Who Was That Ex-President I Saw You With Last Night?

By Prorev.com Editor Sam Smith

A reader inquires as to why Bill Clinton and Bush the Elder are so chummy these days. This is another case where just considering the political aspect of the news lets you down. A more helpful approach is to consider Clinton and Bush the heads of the two biggest political mobs in the country, a metaphor strengthened by a recent shot of the pair, both in shades, leaning back smugly in their chairs like a couple of big time dons. Sometimes the families work together; sometimes they fight it out.

-snip-

This is all not well understood by the public because the media is loath to admit that anything like this could be going on right under its nose. And liberals don't want to give up their illusion that politics is just a policy debate rather than often something far more sinister. To get some sense of the way the game is sometimes really played, here's an account we ran six years ago:

1. Please - DEA makes deals with all sorts of criminals all the time
That is the only way they catch bad guys. If they don't 'turn' perps they never get a convinction.

Is a site that accepts self published work. For that reason it is not an accepted source in LBN. So, the fact that this is posted in Editorials and Other Articles doesn't alter the fact that one should take any story from there with a grain of salt.

5. What?
Some great writers have chosen Scoop.nz to get the word out including Jason Leopold. He did some exclusive writing with them.

6. Nancy - please explain this - I have long been wondering why...
You said.

"Scooop is a site that accepts self published work. For that reason it is not an accepted source in LBN. So, the fact that this is posted in Editorials and Other Articles doesn't alter the fact that one should take any story from there with a grain of salt."

Nancy,

I have wondered why Scoop is not accepted in LBN for some time. And asked the mods about it but not received an answer.... what exactly does "accepts self published work" mean. Every site accepts work from authors and chooses to publish it or not. Once we publish it it becomes published work.

If we are excluded because some of our contributors have their own sites then I would have thought that sites like common dreams, onlinejournal and counterpunch would also have problems.

In addition I think the implication in your last remark - "one should take any story from there with a grain of salt" - is a bit on the nose. Personally I take everything published on CNN.com and Foxnews with a grain of salt because they are biased partisan media. Independent media like us who do not censor people's editorial views are in my view more reliable.

The idea that news that is cast through the MSM filter is somehow more reliable and need not be taken with a grain of salt is frankly rather laughable.

7. Policy issues should be taken up
with the administrators.

I'm sorry you perceived this as a slam on your site. I was expressing a personal opinion and not one as a DU representative. I let my dislike of Clinton conspiracies get in the way of my better judgment.

4. NEXUS
"we're only in it for the money'...
clinton is a jr dynasty maker.as he continues his political dynasty..
bush has been around since sam bush was war profiteering in WW I

"American Dynasty" by Kevin Phiillips lays out the bush history

USA has become a family system of political dynasties..kennedy {whom I like} and others
I though 1776 was about leaving dynasties and not creating them

Then theres all the connections that the pols make for their families and the exit into the private sector..Powell is good example...
Its spin but yes I think there is plenty NEXUS

9. Historically, power always consolidates, then dissipates when it becomes..
untenable. For many reasons (corporate overgrowth - environmental destruction, etc.) the cycle may be completing itself once more very soon.

College tutition at BC or BU is $ 170,00 for 4 yrs..

12. Rivals, but "members of the same club"
Until we get meaningful election reform AND meaningful campaign finance reform, we will continue to get more of the same. Unless (it is most likely inevitable), due to their greed and consequent shortsightedness, the system falls apart again. <Like what happened with the great depression. The result was Keynesian socialism - for a few decades anyway.>

reward their supporters by backstabbin them..its in the blue bush blood..

BK Jr called bush the most corrupt, immoral president in US History

My dad was a stroke victim.I remember visiting hin in 11/02..he could barely get off the couch ..he had his Boston Globe paper in one hand and the TV remote in the other and he said:" Hes not my president..I can't stand to see his face..." as he clicked the fraud off his TV..he died 01/02/03 ..AMEN!
