N.C. head of college GOP to question fund-raising tactics
DURHAM, N.C. - The head of North Carolina's College Republicans said he plans to question the fund-raising tactics of his national organization when the group meets next week.

The College Republican National Committee was scrutinized in recent newspaper articles that detailed how high-pressure mailings had caused senior citizens to make repeated donations to the organization, which solicits under different names.

The Herald-Sun of Durham said last month that at least 87 percent of donations to the national group from North Carolina had come from people who list their occupation as retired. That's a much higher rate than that of similar organizations and has raised questions about whether the group is targeting and misleading elderly donors.

"If it's true, it's unethical and immoral," Michael Pomarico, a UNC-Wilmington student and chairman of the N.C. Federation of College Republicans, told The Herald-Sun in a story published Tuesday. "I would hope that Eric Hoplin, our chairman, would fix that."

1. I just love how these "moral" RNCers
are getting remorseful and questioning things after the fact.

2. Republicans do that
My husband has the same name (except for the Col. prefix) as his grandfather, who'd be 98 if he hadn't died three years ago, and he gets constant dramatic begging letters from Republican groups.

3. Elderly doesn't necessarily mean they are incompetent
Just because they are elderly donors doesn't mean they are totally ignorant or incompetent. If they give money to republicans then they are just foolish old people.
Maybe this Michael Pomarico needs to get some new friends if he feels so uncomfortable with the ones he has now.

4. No.
According to one story that I have read, the problem stems from these
Junior Repukes not telling these elderly people the truth about where their donatios are going.

In other words they lie, so in a way the elderly giving this money are ignorant, ignorant of the facts.

5. Check the Herald-Sun archives and read the articles
The national group targets people living in nursing homes in their eighties and nineties. They send dozens of letters a week to the same people, all using different organization names. The people thought they were donating little bits to lots of different groups, but it turns out that they were donating to the College Republicans over and over again.

The interviews with some of the people are heartbreaking. Many of them are very confused and don't really understand what happened. Only a few understood what they were doing.

It's another example of the hateful, lying, thieving behavior of Republican groups.
