Bush Wins Iowa (CBC)
Last Updated Fri, 05 Nov 2004 13:32:44 EST

DES MOINES, IOWA - U.S. President George W. Bush won the state of Iowa on Friday, three days after the polls closed on Nov. 2.

His belated Midwestern victory gave Bush 286 electoral college votes, against Democratic presidential candidate Senator John Kerry's unchanged tally of 252.

It also gave Bush a clean sweep of the last three states to be declared in the 2004 presidential election.

Kerry had already conceded the race for the White House on Wednesday, so the Iowa decision had no effect on the election outcome.

23. Show me cheating in my old home state
a lot of these people signed for absentee ballots in January at the Dem caucuses and did not remember that. I saw the same problem when I was working with elections in 2002.

Iowa truely is a "swing" state. The state senate is now tied 25-25 and the Repubs only hold the state house 51-49.

10. This was so well planned and executed it would be like someone set
100 small fires in your house and you were running around trying to put each one out. We have been planning too but not planning on cheating. Everything is so clear, even that last minute wrangling to get people to challenge was an effort to keep people focused on the challengers rather than the machines in Ohio. Such a sad sad day for America.

7. 286-252, 51-48 percent is hardly a landslide or mandate
The Dems and the media should be calling Bush on this.

17. A Mandate is what any republican has all the time
The media is not going to call bush on ANYTHING, and they'll slam the Democrats hard if we try.

There was no moderation in the last four years. These next four will be no different. All that changes is public perception.

9. Not going to make that "B & B"' reservation! The boycott begins.
Going to go to Saugatuck,Michigan or Galena, Illinois instead. Both beautiful little resort towns and they are located in BLUE states!!!

Sorry Iowa, I used to like you and took lots of little trips to the Quad Cities, and Dubuque but from now on its the Illinois side of the Missisip' for me!

16. I'm sorry about Iowa going red.
But at least we're still among the handful of states that don't have a death penalty. Can't say that about a lot of blue states, including Illinois.

24. Actually, eastern Iowa is bluer than blue.
It was the rural West that sunk us. Iowa City is like a small, landlocked version of San Francisco. Hell, when I was there, I was considered a right-winger!
