Bush 48% Hillary 41% (Bush is losing ground to Kerry and Dean)
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 10:50 AM by rmpalmer
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Presidential%20Ballot_Sept2.htm

As a Presidential candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton attracts more Democratic votes than other contenders but still trails President Bush 48% to 41%.
If the Democrats nominate Senator John Kerry, the President leads 45% to 36%. Against Vermont Governor Howard Dean, Bush leads 45% to 34%.

The national telephone survey of 1,499 Likely voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports August 29-September 1, 2003. Margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Rasmussen Reports measures the economic confidence of consumers and investors on a daily basis. As part of this process, we measure, employment, job satisfaction, interest rates, and more.

--snip--

While Bush leads individual Democrats, his overall poll numbers have slipped. Against a generic Democrat, the President is now tied, 42% to 42%. A month ago, the President led 44% to 41% against a generic Democrat.

--snip--

The President has lost ground compared to Kerry and Dean since the end of July.

I'm playing by the DU rules and posting the headline - but I think the big news is even though a lot of Americans are still brain-dead as to who is running for the Democrats, that whistle-ass is losing ground to Kerry and Dean. So when will the media catch on this idiot is very beatable.

3. Yes
and I'm glad to see Bush's leads over Kerry and Dean are 9 and 11 points, respectively. Dean was behind in the high teens not long ago. And these numbers mirror Zogby, who also polls likely voters. I believe he had Kery down by 9 and Dean down by 10. (BTW, I know she's not running but I still think it's pretty cool Hillary only trails by 7, and the other guys are close behind.)

4. CRAP poll beware
Rasmussen utilizes an automatic system for polling. Not scientific. Plus his polls usually favor Republicans.

5. encouraging but Rassmussen
is tilted towards GOP. In 2000, they consistently had Bush ahead of Gore by a healthy margin. I believe their final poll gave Bush a 7-point lead and we know how the election turned out.

9. Wesley Clark Beats Bush 49% to 40%.
DraftWesleyClark.com Releases Zogby Poll
by Walter Hough Friday August 29, 2003 at 04:25 PM

In “Blind Bio” Match-Up, Wesley Clark Tops All Current Democrats, Beats Bush 49% to 40%.

DraftWesleyClark.com, the national campaign to draft former General Wesley Clark for President, has experienced an explosion in traffic and energy in the wake of its release of stunning results from a Zogby poll commissioned by the group. Using a “blind bio” approach, the poll showed General Clark defeating all current Democratic candidates, and beating President Bush 49.4% to 40.2%. (see http://www.DraftWesleyClark.com/poll.htm for full results)

“Clearly, these stunning poll results have unleashed an entirely new wave of enthusiasm for a Clark candidacy,” said John Hlinko, co-founder of the effort. “DraftWesleyClark.com already had the second most traffic of all the Presidential candidate sites – but yesterday we had our most traffic ever. The combination of these poll results and our performance in the ‘modem primary’ clearly shows the depth of popular support for General Clark.”

Iraq Chaos May Cloud Bush's Sept. 11 Legacy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two years and two wars after the Sept. 11 attacks, George W. Bush's aura of invincibility has faded and his challenge may be to keep his presidency from being more associated with Americans dying in Iraq (news - web sites) than with his dramatic pledge at Ground Zero to battle terrorism.

12. BUT HILLARY ISN'T RUNNING
I question any presidential poll that has Hillary Clinton in it since she's said time and time again she's not running in 2004. This is probably some poll from a right-wing think tank to rouse neo-con supporters to give more money trying to say "Look Hillary could get 41% of the vote against Bush).

BUT HILLARY ISN'T RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Geez!

13. Well, the Party cannot nominate 'Generic Democrat,' ...
so Dean will just have to keep gaining against Dubya. ;-)

As will Kerry, for that matter. Or Hillary.

14. AOL's Welcome Screen
has yet another "Can Anyone Beat Bush?" story. I am so fucking sick of this spin. His re-elect numbers are in the toilet and the media paints him as invincible. I hope they all get a nasty surprise in November 2004.

Keep spreading the word about how the press spins and spins for Bush.

16. The media whores will get a nasty surprise
in November 2004...
Gore:50,996,116
Bush: 50,456,169

Thats half a million.
Most Nader voters will go Dem in 04. Let's say 2/3. + 2 million
Assume one million unemployed will vote against Bush.
Some military votes will switch.
Senior citizens are pissed on interest rates, meds.
Moderate Repubs embarrassed by the idiocy of Bush.
Energized left of center won't sit this one out.

IMO, Bush can't win. Sorry CNN.

15. They are noticing that he is vulnerable
But, frankly, that kind of worries me, too. I'm afraid they'll interpret that reality as their need to boost him up even more.

What I would like to see, to ensure that * is sent packing in '04 is for a group like MoveOn to organize neighborhood/community demonstrations in favor of whoever is the Dem candidate. It would have a HUGE impact if, in communities all across the US, at least once a week, 20-30 people (fewer or more depending on size of town) would stand on a prominent street corner for half an hour with the campaign signs of DEM NOMINEE HERE.

I find that people are very impressed that anyone "like them" would stand on a street corner for anything. They automatically think more about the subject when confronted with the reality that their neighbors care enough to take a very public stand on it. I think it's an interesting opportunity to reclaim our "public commons," stolen by the big media, in the public debate.

Once a day would be better than once a week, and the more "just folks" the crowd appeared, the greater the effect.

17. I'm really suprised by the numbers
Although I believe Hillary is electable (but not for 2004), I'm still suprised she got that many votes. Hm.
