Iraqi police chief survives assassination attempt
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 06:06 AM by dArKeR
A U.S. soldier was killed Friday and four others wounded in an ambush north of Baghdad, and the police chief in Saddam's home town of Tikrit narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, the military said.

Insurgents fired three rocket-propelled grenades at a support convoy on a main road northeast of Baqouba, 70 kilometres northeast of Baghdad, said Capt. Jay Miller from the 67th Armour Regiment's 3rd Battalion.

The soldiers were also hit by small arms fire.

One of the wounded soldiers would have to have a leg amputated, said Capt. David Nelson from the 4th Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade.
