Thousands march against war, Bush
The protesters in Portland, ranging from young to old, appear united by the goal of unseating the president

About 2,000 antiwar protesters marched through downtown Portland in a Sunday rally characterized by bitter and in some cases unprintable denunciations of President Bush.

The focus on Bush marked a departure from the protests that occurred in the early days of the war more than 18 months ago. Back then, younger, more rambunctious crowds criticized not only the administration but what they perceived as shameful collusion by lawmakers and corporations to lay the groundwork for the conflict.

On Sunday, a wider range of protesters -- from towheads and their parents to graybeards grounded in antiwar protests of yesteryear -- focused on ousting Bush.

"People have gotten desperate," said Barbara Dudley, an adjunct professor at Portland State University after she delivered the rally's keynote address from a dais in the North Park Blocks. "I think the common denominator here is that they want Bush out of office." 0

4. Me too...
Dean supporter over here, but I'm happy to vote for Kerry/Edwards. In fact, I'm feel pretty confident that we will do well under a Kerry/Edwards stewardship. Granted not all the things I'd like to see change will change, but we will, at least, be stepping in the right direction.

5. At least you know Kerry will listen and understand suggestions
people like Dr. Dean will be giving him; there is absolutely no luck on either one of those under Bush.

11. I for one, don't intend to let Kerry have free reign
but will keep up the work that has begun here trying to get
rid of the stench, but the price of liberty is hard work.

7. The anger, the disgust, the desire to unseat
* are palpable. It's Kerry in a landslide if the momentum stays up and the election is watched over carefully.

15. What will they do when Kerry takes over?
Will they still protest Kerry and his plan to send more troops to Iraq or will they tone it down so as to not rock the boat and allow Kerry to implement a liberal domestic agenda for America? Tough call with all the repubs still in command of the house and senate. How will Kerry get his supremes on board with these house and senate gridlocks?

Seems to me that the protesters should just go away when we finally regain our power back so that the left at least looks united on paper and the news at five.

17. We will need some cooperation from the protesters at first
We have lost a lot of ground since the big dog moved out. To get it back we need everyone on our side to paint a rosy picture for the first few years if we expect to keep the power that Kerry is bringing our way. No?
